MANNER [IN, AFTER]In a manner означает 'тем или иным способом, в той или иной манере': to write in an unusual manner, to walk in an awkward manner. In the manner of имеет в виду стиль, характерный для определенной школы или определенного направления (в литературе, искусстве и т. д.).
