¿To see, to watch o to look?
Los tres verbos reflejan tres conceptos muy distintos. To see hace referencia a la capacidad visual y no es fruto de una acción deliberada. A menudo se usa con can o could: I can see the mountains from my bedroom. Puedo ver las montañas desde mi dormitorio.
To look at implica una acción deliberada: I saw an old atlas, so I opened it and looked at the maps. Vi un atlas antiguo, así que lo abrí y miré los mapas.
To watch también se refiere a una acción deliberada, a menudo cuando se tiene un interés especial por lo que ocurre: I watched the planes in the sky with great interest. Miraba los aviones en el cielo con gran interés. Igualmente puede indicar el paso del tiempo (we watched the animals playing for half an hour, durante media hora observamos cómo jugaban los animales), movimiento (they stood there watching the cars drive off into the distance, se quedaron allí de pie viendo cómo se marchaban los coches) o vigilancia (the policemen have been watching this house because they thought we were thieves, los policías estaban vigilando la casa porque pensaban que éramos ladrones).
Para hablar de películas u obras de teatro usamos to see: Have you seen Hamlet?, ¿Has visto Hamlet? To watch se refiere a la televisión y los deportes en general: I always watch the television in the evening. Siempre veo la televisión por las noches. I like to watch football. Me gusta ver el fútbol. Al hablar de programas o partidos específicos podemos usar tanto to watch como to see: I like to see/watch the news at 9:00. Me gusta ver las noticias a las 9.00. Did you see/watch the match last night?, ¿Viste el partido anoche?

ADJ1) gaucho antes de s, gaucho-like2) Cono Sur * (=servicial) helpfulGAUCHO Gaucho is the name given to the men who rode the Pampa, the plains of Argentina, Uruguay and parts of southern Brazil, earning their living on cattle farms. Important parts of the gaucho's traditional costume include the faja, a sash worn around the waist, the facón, a sheath knife, and boleadoras, strips of leather weighted with stones at either end which were used somewhat like lassos to catch cattle. During the 19th century this vast pampas area was divided up into large ranches and the free-roaming lifestyle of the gaucho gradually disappeared. Gauchos were the inspiration for a tradition of literatura gauchesca, of which the most famous work is the two-part epic poem "Martín Fierro" written by the Argentine José Hernández between 1872 and 1879 and mourning the loss of the gaucho way of life and their persecution as outlaws.* * *masculino gaucho•• Cultural note:A peasant of the pampas of Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. The most famous work is Martín Fierro, an epic poem by José Hernández about the misfortunes of an Argentine gaucho when the huge pampas are divided into ranches. The culture of the Gaucho, which dates from colonial times, combines elements from several sources: Spain, indigenous Indian culture, and that of freed slaves. They gained fame for their courage and daring during the wars of independence against Spain, but they later became increasingly marginalized because of their fiercely independent spirit and nomadic customs. Nevertheless they remain vivid figures in the national imagination, together with their working tools and weapons – the Spanish hunting knife and Indian “boleadoras” – their distinctive clothing, such as the poncho, and customs, such as drinking mate and singing campfire songs. They were immortalized by José Hernández in his long poem “El gaucho Martín Fierro” (1872-79), which is Argentina's national epic and did much to create and popularize their legend. Although this tradition may be affectionately sent up nowadays (e.g. in the comic strip “Inodoro Pereyra” by the cartoonist Fontanarrosa), the Gaucho is still regarded by many as the embodiment of the virtues of solidarity and companionship.* * *RplI adj gaucho atrII m gaucho* * *gaucho nm: gaucho -

m.pulque. ( Central American Spanish, Mexican Spanish)* * *SM Méx pulquePULQUE Pulque is a traditional alcoholic drink from Mexico. Thick, slightly sweet and milky, it is brewed from the juice of the agave plant, or maguey, and is roughly equivalent in strength to beer. It was the sacred drink of the Aztecs, who used it in offerings to the gods and also for medicinal purposes. In modern-day Mexico it is often given to children since it is rich in vitamins, and in the cities it is sold in special bars called pulquerías.* * *•• Cultural note:A thick, white, Mexican alcoholic drink made from fermented maguey juice; the sacred drink of the Aztecs. * * *pulque nmCAm, Méx pulque, = fermented agave cactus juicePULQUEThe juice of the agave cactus was used for making drinks for centuries before the arrival of the Spanish in Mexico. The liquid (known as “aguamiel” when first extracted) was fermented to make the viscous, milky drink known as pulque. In pre-Columbian culture it was a social, religious and economic institution at the centre of many myths and cults. It was drunk by priests to induce fervour before rituals, or given to the victims of human sacrifice, or to warriors before battle. Still considered an aphrodisiac, it is less popular today. Most of the old “pulquerías” (or pulque bars) have disappeared, and attempts to bottle pulque have not proved popular. However, tequila and mescal, which are distilled from the sap of agave cacti, are becoming increasingly popular internationally.* * *m Méxpulque (alcoholic drink made from cactus) -
