Many well-known Latin-American writers won the prize early in their career, or have served on its international jury.PREMIO CERVANTESEvery year since 1975, on April 23rd – the day Miguel Cervantes died – the Spanish Ministry of Culture has awarded its Premio Cervantes to a Spanish-language writer with a lifetime of literary achievement. The jury is made up of the Director of the Real Academia Española (Spanish Royal Academy), the Director of one of the equivalent Latin American academies, the previous year's winner and other prominent literary figures.
