Ее прибыли образуются за счет приносимых этими ценными бумагами доходов и увеличения капитала. Обычно инвестиции делаются в ценные бумаги компаний, котирующихся на фондовой бирже, но иногда-и в бумаги не котирующихся на бирже компаний. Акционеры инвестиционной компании имеют примерно такие же преимущества, что и члены паевых трастов (unit trusts), т.е. распределение рисков, связанных с инвестициями, и пользование услугами профессиональных менеджеров. Инвестиционные трасты, которые, как правило, не являются трастами (trusts) в обычном понимании этого слова, но частными или публичными компаниями с ограниченной ответственностью, отличаются от паевых трастов, в которых инвесторы покупают паи, не будучи акционерами.
