Es necesario consultar a un oráculo de Ocha para saber con certeza quiénes son los oríshas tutelares de una persona. Cuando se conoce al dueño de la cabeza, al Eledá, ya es fácil conocer a los otros el camino en que se le presenta a uno. Si a uno le sale letra de asentarse el santo y así lo quiere, principia todo un proceso preparatorio para profesar. Este proceso se apura cuando hay peligro de muerte. Todo preparado, entra uno en "abboddún" desde que le ponen el Obatalá eleke aña; siete días de rituales iniciales en el ilé ocha, en la estera y ya pasan a hacerle a uno el Kari Ocha o fijación del santo en la cabeza. Esta ceremonia es muy secreta y seria: no la puede presenciar quien no tenga sacerdocio o profesión de santero o santera. Sigue el día del medio y después el de "itá", siete días más y ya puede ir uno para su casa. Todo el mundo tiene Eledá, pero son muy pocos los que tienen que sentárselo. El Eledá es el guía de uno, los otros dos orichas acompañantes son los protectores. "En, la cabeza, es sagrada, fíj ese que a ella va el Eledá, el santo principal de uno". "Eledá es lo que piensa, ve, vela, siempre está kuni kuni". "Guía y decide nuestra vida". "Lo que está en la cabeza es santo", es por eso que no se le estará tocando ni golpeando la cabeza a uno: "¿Ud. le va a pegar a su Eledá?; tampoco se debe andar sin sombrero porque el sol y el sereno dañan el aché que le da su Eledá". Cuando se lava la cabeza o se le hace rogación, a quien se le hace es a su Eledá o Ángel. "El bautismo de los curas es una rogación; ellos lo pueden hacer porque tienen, a su manera, el Eledá asentado: es igual". Desde que uno está en el vientre materno ya tiene guía y protección; "nunca y por razón alguna se separan de uno: ¡no se deje engañar, Hijo!" Cuando uno nace hay que hacerle algo al Eledá, a veces en el vientre. "Nosotros no vemos al Eledá hasta el momento en que se va a morir uno". Al día siguiente de la muerte de un olócha y al amanecer, se hace una ceremonia mortuoria en la que se ve la sombra del Eledá, la cual recibe una rogación de despido y se le mete en el ataúd para que acompañe al cadáver. "Ese es el único momento en que andamos con sombras". "El asunto de los congos es como el de los espiritistas, siempre andan con sombras": no hay brujo sin espíritu". "Los congos son espiritistas"; "nosotros somos santeros"; "ellos hablan y tratan con los muertos, siempre; nosotros con los oríshas". "El muerto interrumpe al santo". En la cabeza que se hizo kari ocha solamente puede posesionarse el santo de cabecera, ni siquiera los protectores y mucho menos los muertos, salvo que sea el Eledá un orisha que como Ochún o Yemayá son muerteras y dejan que por su "erí" pasen muertos.
