(1899-1947) Капоне (Капон), Аль (Альфонс, Эл)Чикагский гангстер, уроженец Италии, влиятельный и самый известный босс организованной преступности в 20-30-х гг. XX в., особенно в период "сухого закона" [ Prohibition]. Начинал преступную карьеру в Нью-Йорке, позднее обосновался в Чикаго. Сколотил большое состояние на нелегальной торговле алкоголем [ bootlegging] и рэкете [racketeering]. Был известен под кличками "Большой Эл" ["Big Al"] и "Лицо со шрамом" ["Scarface"]. С 1920 по 1931 руководил серией налетов на банды конкурентов, сопровождавшихся перестрелками и убийствами. Широко практиковал подкуп властей, в 1927 провел на пост мэра г. Чикаго своего ставленника "Большого Билла" Томпсона [Thompson, "Big Bill"]. 17 февраля 1929 организовал расстрел банды соперников - обошедшее страницы газет всего мира убийство в День Св. Валентина [ St. Valentine's Day Massacre]. В конце концов власти арестовали Капоне, предъявив ему обвинение в неуплате федеральных налогов. 1931-39 гангстер провел в тюрьмах, в том числе в знаменитом Алькатрасе [ Alcatraz].
