Рузвельта [ Roosevelt, Theodore (Teddy)] в 1937 ввести в состав Верховного суда [ Supreme Court, U.S.] дополнительных судей, которые поддерживали бы законодательство "Нового курса" [ New Deal]. Рузвельт попросил Конгресс одобрить его предложение о расширении состава суда и прибавить к каждому судье старше 70 лет еще одного судью (это позволило бы ему ввести в состав суда 6 новых членов, и таким образом, суд состоял бы из 15 человек). Конгресс не поддержал предложение, но вопрос вскоре отпал сам по себе, так как суд неожиданно стал одобрять новые законы.
