Los eisteddfodau son festivales tradicionales en Gales, de uno o dos días de duración, durante los cuales individuos y grupos en representación de aldeas, iglesias, colegios o condados rivales compiten entre sí en la composición e interpretación de poesía, prosa y piezas musicales. El primer eisteddfod a nivel nacional se celebró en el castillo de Aberteifi-Cardigan en el año 1176.
