El caso fue, que cuando hicimos una parada para que Teobaldo liara un cigarrillo, comenzó este a deshacerse de risa mirando para mí y señalándome guasonamente con el dedo, fue entonces cuando remiré con atención mi traje y comprendí que había encogido casi una cuarta, lo mismo en las perneras que en las mangas, y seguro que lo mismo le sucedería a todo el traje. Quíteme luego la chaqueta con grande cuidado para no romperla ya que estaba aprisionada a mi cuerpo, y comencé en el estirar sus mangas con el mismo cuidado que se usa para acariciar a los niños, pues temor tenía que al estirarla se me despedazara, pero fue lo mismo, porque aquella prenda tal me parecía que cada vez se tornaba más pequeña. Teobaldo no paraba de reírse sin preocuparse de ninguna cosa, mientras que yo desilusionado y lleno de tristeza no paraba de pensar, siempre en el hacer de buscar la solución a mi problema, por último llegue a la conclusión, que si el traje que estaba del todo mojado por la llovizna de la niebla, con el agua el condenado se encogía, a lo mejor secándole bien volvía otra vez a su posición de nuevo. Así fue, que cuando estábamos en los aledaños de la aldea de Traspena, y ya escuchábamos la música de la gaita y el mormullo de las gentes prendí una hoguera debajo de un castaño, y comencé a secar mi traje con la ayuda de Teobaldo hasta dejarle completamente seco, y cuando de nuevo le puse, tal me parecía que haba crecido un poco, pero Teobaldo me aseguro que me sentaba todavía mejor que antes. —Un par de años mas tarde vendía yo aquel traje en la calle de Picos de Europa de la ciudad de Madrid el mismo día que me vestí de legionario, me compró tal único traje que haba tenido en toda mi vida, un judío que tenía en esta calle una casa de compra y venta de ropa vieja, me dio por él unas pesetas, y me dijo mirándome paternalmente que me las daba, porque yo le era simpático y le caía muy bien, porque por el valor del traje no me daría ni un céntimo.Primer Diccionario Enciclopédicu de la Llingua Asturiana > paxiétchu
