I v 1. любить, нравиться: to like smb, smth — любить кого-либо, что-либо; to like to do (doing) smth — любить делать что-либо; 2. хотеть, желать (1). Глагол to like относится к группе глаголов, после которых обязательно прямое дополнение. Он употребляется в конструкциях to like smb, smth; to like to do smth и to like doing smth. Когда в предложении содержательно нет прямого дополнения, его место замещает местоимение it.
