3 also
['ɔːlsəʊ]adv1) также, тожеHe can also sing a little. — Он также немного поет.
He has been to England and also to some other countries. — Он был в Англии, а также в некоторых других странах.
They will also go there. — Они тоже туда поедут.
My girl-friend was also called Ann. — Мою подругу тоже звали Аней.
2) к тому же, притом, и, и к тому жеHe was displeased, also angry. — Он был недоволен и к тому же сердит.
I'll take the car because it is a long walk from the station. Also the forecast is for rain. — Я возьму машину, потому что вокзал далеко. К тому же по прогнозу погоды ожидается дождь.
•USAGE:(1). Also 1. связывает две части предложения или два самостоятельных предложения выражая солидарность с первым утверждением. Обычно also 1. стоит перед смысловым глаголом и не может стоять в конце предложения. В конце предложения это значение передается английскими too и as well as: The boy also reads very much. Cp. The boy reads very much too. I was so busy that I missed lunch and dinner as well. Я был так занят, что пропустил ленч, а так же и обед. (2). Also 1. употребляется в полных утвердительных и вопросительных предложениях. В полных отрицательных предложениях это значение присоединения передается словом either: He doesn't know it either. Он тоже этого не знает. Don't you know his name either? Вы разве тоже не знаете как его зовут? (3). Русское "тоже" в кратких ответах, выражающих солидарность с положительным утверждением передается оборотом so + do (does, is, can... etc) I (we, etc): He went to bed early - So did I. Русское "тоже" в кратких ответах, выражающих солидарность с отрицательным утверждением, соответствует обороту с neither + do (does, is, etc) I (he, etc): He doesn't like such films. - Neither does she. Ему не нравятся такие фильмы. - Ей тоже. He has never been to the North. - Neither have I. Он никогда не был на севере. - Я тоже. (4). Also 2. в отличие от also 1., обычно стоит в начале или конце предложения и, как правило, не только связывает два утверждения, но вводит дополнительную, иногда неожиданную, информацию: This article is easier and shorter also. Эта статья легче и к тому же короче. No, I won't slay for a drink. I'm driving. Also, I have to get up early tomorrow. Нет, я пить не буду. Я на машине. К тому же, мне завтра рано вставать. Think carefully about whether you really want that job. Also, are you able to move house if you do get it. Подумай хорошенько, хочешь ли ты получить эту работу. И к тому же, ты можешь сюда перебраться (переехать) если ты ее получишь -
4 a rain check
амер.перенесение приглашения и т. п. на другой день; ≈ в другой раз (употр. преим. с гл. to give и to take) [rain check контрамарка на другой бейсбольный или футбольный матч, киносеанс на открытом воздухе и т. п. (в случае, если игра или показ фильма были отменены из-за плохой погоды)]‘You're very hospitable,’ he said. ‘Perhaps you'll give me a rain check,’ I said. ‘Why sure. Any time, honey!’ (F. Knebel, ‘Vanished’, ch. 5) — - Вы очень гостеприимный человек, - сказал он. - Может быть, вашим приглашением можно будет воспользоваться позднее? А я ответила, что, конечно, приходите в любое время.
‘Well, let's have supper,’ Ida said. Vitaldo and Eric looked at each other for the briefest of seconds. ‘You'll have to count me out,’ said Eric quickly... ‘I just got off a boat and I'm still vibrating.’ He stood up. ‘I'll take a rain check on it.’ (J. Baldwin, ‘Another Country’, book II, ch. II) — - Ну что ж, поужинаем, - сказала Ида. Витальдо и Эрик в какую-то долю секунды обменялись взглядами. - На меня не рассчитывайте, - сразу же сказал Эрик... - Я только что сошел с парохода, и у меня все качается под ногами. - Он встал. - Я воспользуюсь этим приглашением в другой раз.
There was hot water, and a drink made of milk mixed with the fresh blood of cattle, which I declined... mouse paws eaten with a kind of syrup, which I also took a rain check on. (S. Bellow, ‘Henderson the Rain King’, ch. XII) — Мне предложили горячую воду и напиток из молока, смешанного с кровью, от которого я отказался... дали мышиные лапки с каким-то сиропом, которые я обещал попробовать в самое ближайшее время, но не сейчас.

tropical rain forest
The most valuable and the richest ecosystem on Earth. It plays a critical part in the Earth's life support systems and house 50%, and possibly as much as 90%, of all the species on Earth. It is a key storehouse of foods, oils and minerals, and a source of ingredients that make up a range of medical treatments. It also represents home and livelihood for many people. However, more than half of the rainforests have disappeared, chopped down for valuable tropical hardwoods, or cleared to provide areas for cattle grazing or human habitation. The forests play an important part in climate patterns, and deforestation is thought to be responsible for 18% of global warming. Furthermore, as they disappear there is also an albedo effect - a damaging increase in the sunlight reflected - which affects wind and rainfall patterns. (Source: WRIGHT)

7 ὄμβρος
Grammatical information: m.Meaning: `rain, shower, thunder rain', also `rainwater', metaph. `water' (Il.).Compounds: As 1. member e.g. in ὀμβρο-φόρος `bringing rain' (A., Ar.); often as 2. member, e.g. ἔπ-, κάτ-ομβρος `rainy, wet because of rain' (Hp., Arist.; Strömberg Prefix Studies 108f., 145).Derivatives: Several adj.: ὄμβρ-ιος `belonging to rain, like rain' (Pi., Ion.), - ηρός `wet' (Hes.), - ηλός `id.' (Theognost.: cf. ὑδρηλός and Chantraine Form. 242), - ώδης `abundant in rain' (Thphr.), - ικός `id.' (Vett. Val.), - ιμος = `belonging to rain, rainy' (Nic. Th. 388, v.l., PMag. Lond.; Arbenz 25); also ἀνομβρήεις `abundant in rain' (Nic. Al. 288, Ὄλυμπος, from ἀν-ομβρέω; cf. below). -- Subst. ὀμβρία f. `rain' (sch.; cf. ἀντλία, ὑετία a.o., Scheller Oxytonierung 54f.). -- Verbs: 1. ὀμβρέω, - ῆσαι, also with ἀν-, ἐπ- a.o., `to (make) rain, to bewet' (Hes., LXX, A. R.) with ( ἐπ-)όμβρησις f. `raining etc.' (Suid., sch.), ὄμβρημα n. `rainwater' (LXX); 2. ὀμβρίζω = - έω (Eust.); 3. ὀμβροῦται imbricitur (Gloss.).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]X [probably]Etymology: With ὄμβρος one compares first Lat. imber, - ris -n. `rain(shower)' with the same meaning with perh. second. i-flexion; Further, with slightly deviating meaning, Skt. abhrá-m n. `cloud'. One assumed that β after nasal could represent an aspirate, which is wrong (pace Schwyzer 333), so abhra- must be left out (for imber also * embhro- is possible). One assumed in these words an r-stem and beside it an s-stem, which was seen in Skt. ámbhas n. `water', also `rainwater' [for the same reason Arm. amb, amp, gen. -oy `cloud' must be left out.] -- There is no connection with νέφος, νεφέλη etc. -- Further several Europ. rivernames of Celt. origin(?) have been compared with ὄμβρος, e.g. NHG Amper, Engl. Amber. -- So wrong Pok. 315f. - So ομβρος has no etymology; Szemerenyi, Syncope 241f, 249 assumes a loanword (= a Pre-Greek word).Page in Frisk: 2,384-385Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > ὄμβρος
