Wort, I) Redeteil u. (bes. der Plur. »Worte«) Rede selbst: vocabulum (das Wort als durch Laute ausgedrückte Bezeichnung eines Gegenstandes, die Benennung; Plur. vocabula = »die Wörter« als Bestandteile der Sprache). – verbum (das Wort als durch die Rede oder Schrift ausgedrückter Sinn eines Gedachten [dah. auch kollektiv -Spruch, Ausspruch]; Plur. verba = »die Wörter« als Bestandteile der Rede). – vox (das Wort als laut gewordene Äußerung). – nomen (das Wort als einem Gegenstande vor andern bes. beigelegte Benennung, der Name). – sententia (Spruch, z.B. regalis sane et digna Aeacidum genere sententia). – proverbium (das Sprichwort. w. vgl.). – Hier ist zu bemerken, daß, wenn man im Deutschen sagt; »das Wort aratrum hat seinen Namen von arare«, es im Lateinischen heißen muß: verbum aratridicitur [2738] ab arando, od. bl. aratrum dicitur abarando. – einfache Wörter, voces simplices: zusammengesetzte Wörter; voces compositae. – jene herrlichen Worte des Pyrrhus über die Zurückgabe der Gefangenen, Pyrrhi de captis reddendis illa praeclara: das sind etwa Platos Worte, haec Platonis fere: treffend ist das W.
