Muere ese mis mo ano, pocos dias antes de cumplir los 52. Allan Lane, uno de los nombres del western de serie B, aunque no de los mas destacados, es el protagonista de la ma yor parte de los de Brannon, quien mostro una gran capacidad de trabajo durante sus pocos anos de ac tividad realizadora. 1926El rey de las peliculas de bajo costo e independientes, especialista en el cine de terror, es un incansable productor de mas de 300 filmes, que tambien se prodigo en la direccion. En ese terreno tiene una serie de magnificas peliculas basadas en relatos de Edgar Allan Poe, y otras de casi todos los generos. No fue el western uno de sus preferidos; al menos, no se detuvo mucho tiempo en el. Sin embargo, su debut como director lo hizo con un western, y algunas de sus primeras realizaciones tambien lo fueron; en cualquier caso, cada vez que abordo la direccion de una pelicula del genero, lo hizo con dignidad e, incluso, con brillantez. 1893-1972Nacido en Alemania, discipulo de Max Reinhardt, lle ga a los Estados Unidos a finales de la decada de los 20, con una importante experiencia teatral y cinematografica a sus espaldas como actor y director. En el primero de esos cometidos hay que senalar que trabajo en el Faust de F.W. Murnau (1926); en el segundo, es el autor de Geslecht in Fesseln (1928), un in tenso drama homosexual en el ambiente carcelario. En 1935 co-dirige, con su maestro, El sueno de una noche de verano (A Midsum mer Night’s Dream), mitica adaptacion de la obra de William Shakes peare. Cuenta, en su haber, con algunas otras peliculas importantes y/o de exito, como los biopics La tragedia de Louis Pasteur (The Story of Louis Pasteur, 1936) y The Life of Emile Zola (1937), por la que fue candidato al Oscar de ese ano, pero no es, desde luego, un especialista del western, genero que solo toco en una ocasion, ademas de su colaboracion, al parecer extensa, en Duelo al sol.
