«Апостольские ложки». Ложки с изображением одного из апостолов на черенке ручки. Их дарят обычно на крещение младенца. Иногда дарили набор из двенадцати ложек с изображением двенадцати апостолов, иногда четыре с изображением четырёх евангелистов, а иногда только одну. Серебряные ложки дарили детям из зажиточных семей. Отсюда и выражение to be born with a silver spoon in one's mouth — родиться с серебряной ложкой во рту, т. е. с самого рождения пользоваться всеми преимуществами и привилегиями жизни, быть счастливчиком. -
