- see to it that everything is ready- see that it is done in time•CHOICE OF WORDS:(1.) Русские глаголы смотреть, видеть соответствуют английским глаголам to see, to look и to watch, которые различаются по характеру обозначаемого действия. Глагол to see smb, smth обозначает использование способности зрения - увидеть/видеть кого-либо, что-либо, в том числе и зрелищное мероприятие; глагол to see обычно сочетается с такими существительными, как a play (a film, the first night, an actor in some play, a programme on TV). To look at smth Глагол to watch подчеркивает внимательное визуальное изучение какого-либо события, предмета или действия подразумевает заинтересованность смотрящего - (пристально) смотреть, наблюдать, следить, обычно в сочетаниях типа to watch TV (a match, a match on TV, races, figure skating, a game). (2.) See hate, v; USAGE (1.), (2.). (3.) See watch, v WAYS OF DOING THINGS: Глагол to see - в значении "видеть, увидеть" не конкретизирует действия в отличие от глаголов to spot, to sight, to catch sight of, которые, сохраняя значение глагола to see, подчеркивают характер и обстоятельства этого действия (видеть как? To catch sight of - случайно или мельком увидеть, поймать взглядом: She caught sight of her face in the mirror. I just happened to catch sight of him as he was going past our office. It was only when they caught sight of a police car that they realized they were in trouble. I can't describe him very well - I only caught a glimpse of him. Use usted/ ustedes with people who are older than you, those in authority and in formal contexts. ► In Latin America usage varies depending on the country and in some places only the usted forms are used. Where the tú form does exist, only use it with people you know very well. In other areas vos, used with verb forms that are similar to the vosotros ones, often replaces tú. This is standard in Argentina and certain Central American countries while in other countries it is considered substandard. Use ustedes for all cases of you in the plural. ¿To see, to watch o to look?
A menudo se usa con can o could: I can see the mountains from my bedroom. Puedo ver las montañas desde mi dormitorio.
To look at implica una acción deliberada: I saw an old atlas, so I opened it and looked at the maps.
I watched the planes in the sky with great interest. Igualmente puede indicar el paso del tiempo (we watched the animals playing for half an hour, durante media hora observamos cómo jugaban los animales), movimiento (they stood there watching the cars drive off into the distance, se quedaron allí de pie viendo cómo se marchaban los coches) o vigilancia (the policemen have been watching this house because they thought we were thieves, los policías estaban vigilando la casa porque pensaban que éramos ladrones).
Para hablar de películas u obras de teatro usamos to see: Have you seen Hamlet?, ¿Has visto Hamlet? To watch se refiere a la televisión y los deportes en general: I always watch the television in the evening. Siempre veo la televisión por las noches. I like to watch football. Me gusta ver el fútbol. Al hablar de programas o partidos específicos podemos usar tanto to watch como to see: I like to see/watch the news at 9:00. Me gusta ver las noticias a las 9.00. Did you see/watch the match last night?, ¿Viste el partido anoche?
