Cencerrá, las cencerrás se solían hacer en mis queridas aldinas en los tiempos pasados, a las viudas o viudos que de nuevo se volvían a casar y que no tuviesen niños pequeños. (La cencerrada consistía en hacer sonar con grande ruido y mucha fuerza, por todos los lugares alrededor de la casa de los recién casados, cencerros de todas las clases, campanas, latas, en fin todo lo que hiciera crecido ruido. Después de cada pieza musical de esta clase, se hacía un profundo silencio, y uno de los vecinos que hacía la cencerrada, decía una sátira contra los casados y a tenor de su valía, era aplaudida y en grande fuerza jaleada, con voces y risas por todas las gentes de la aldea compartidas. Luego, después volvían hacer sonar sus instrumentos musicales al tenor que con grandes voces decían palabras malsonantes y sucias contra los casados, hasta de nuevo hacían otro silencio, y otro vecino o el mismo, aguijoneaba por ellos con agudas sátiras de su poético pensamiento. Y así, entre el infernal ruido, las sátiras, los gritos, los aplausos y la natural risa y alegría ancestral, las gentes de mis aldeas sembraban en el aire en las noches escampladas o con nieblas, todas las cosas sucias, que hubiesen hecho desde la misma nacencia entrambos cónyuges. Y todo este montón de sátiras, eran hechas en poesía, y trabajadas dentro de la hermosa limpieza, que tiene la filosofía del honrado vivir del Hombre. 1894-1977Tay Garnett es un interesantisimo realizador del que siempre recordaremos su El cartero siempre llama dos veces (The Postman Always Rings Twice, 1946). Se dice que mantuvo siempre un acusado instinto nomada que lo mantenia en movimiento constante. Alistado en el servicio aereo de la marina, sufrio un accidente de aviacion en San Diego mientras realizaba practicas de instructor de vuelo, que le dejo como secuela una patente cojera. De vuelta a la vida civil, entro en el mundo del cine como creador de gags y guionista de fragmentos comicos para Mack Sennett y Hal Roach. Aunque como guionista es mas un hombre del mudo que del sonoro, como director ocurre lo contrario: la mayor parte de su obra la realiza en los ultimos anos 30, los 40 y los primeros 50, conformando una filmografia nada espectacular pero solida. No fue el suyo el mundo del western, que solo abordo tardiamente y para la television. 1911-1982Bailarin en Broadway, Charles Walters es un hombre del musical, y a el dedica sus mejores esfuerzos profesionales como coreografo y realizador. Debuta en Hollywood como coreografo de la pelicula RKO Siete noches en Nueva York (Seven Days Leave, Tim Whe lan, 1942). De inmediato, es contratado por Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer para coreografiar, por ejemplo, Meet Me in St. Louis (Vincente Minnelli, 1944), hasta que, en 1947, tiene ocasion de dirigir Good News. Sus mejores y mas populares peliculas, como Easter Parade (1948) y Lili (1952), son musicales e, incluso, los dos westerns que figuran aqui, uno de ellos rodado en colaboracion y acreditado como obra de George Sidney, son tambien musicales. En 1966 dice adios al cine, y a la Metro, con la produccion Columbia Apartamento para tres (Walk, Don’t Run), en esta ocasion una comedia.
