(Pródromo)El alfabeto utilizado en el presente diccionario es el aceptado oficialmente por las diversas instituciones (tanto de categoría nacional como las de nivel local, estatal o particular) interesadas en la práctica, enseñanza y difusión del idioma maya yucateco, según acuerdo celebrado (en 1984) entre ellas.Pensando en los lectores (que tal vez conozcan alguno o algunos de los diferentes alfabetos tradicionales) daremos una somera explicación de las letras que lo constituyen, tanto en lo que respecta a las consonantes como a las vocales.Desde el momento del contacto entre las dos culturas protagónicas (la maya, del recién "encontrado" o "descubierto" continente americano y la europea, en su modalidad española) quedó de manifiesto que sus logros ideológicos y culturales eran plasmados gráficamente, tanto en la una como en la otra en dos diferentes tipos de "escritura"; una era la de los glifos o sea complejas pictografías de contenido esotérico y ceremonial, destinada para el consumo y uso exclusivo de una élite muy sofisticada, que por medio de este sistema de "mensajes sagrados" crípticos, mantenía el control sociopolítico y religioso sobre las masas populares (desde siempre ágrafas) y otra, era la escritura compuesta de letras conocidas como "latinas", que en aquella época era practicada también por círculos elitísticos (más o menos cerrados) de las cortes europeas y con mayor dedicación y constancia en los monasterios y centros religiosos fieles o no, a la jerarquía romana, que, aunque también servía para plasmar los intereses imperiales, tanto mundanos como divinos, fue poco a poco difundiéndose por diversas razones histórico políticas, a medida que los intereses económicos de Europa fueron extendiéndose por los otros continentes del planetaAsí pues, la escritura con caracteres "latinos" fue imponiéndose paulatinamente por todos lados, principalmente donde no existían otros sistemas oficiales (bien arraigados en las comunidades respectivas) de transmisión de conocimientos en forma gráfica, como en el continente asiático donde las antiguas culturas musulmanas, budistas, hinduístas y chinas han defendido y mantenido sus respectivosalfabetos.En América, particularmente en el área mesoamericana ocupada por los diferentes grupos mayances, los conquistadores españoles y sus aliados los frailes (de diversas denominaciones regulares) trataron de "inventar" alfabetos para hacer "borrón y cuenta nueva" respecto a los muy complicados y misteriosos sistemas indígenas, que, por otra parte, constituían la parte medular del mantenimiento y desarrollo de la estructura ideológica que intentaban destruir. Diversos alfabetos fueron elaborados por los nuevos "maestros", que así, en forma directa y objetiva, se iban posesionando de los cuerpos y de las almas de los nativos de aquel "Nuevo Mundo"En forma esquemática pondremos en el "cuadro de referencia" que se expondrá más abajo, las diversas grafías creadas para las consonantes, ya que para las vocales, aunque los sabios europeos consideraron a las llamadas: a) vocales cortas o "simples" o sea las breves, representadas por una letra vocálica; b) vocales largas (repetidas) y posiblemente también tuvieron en cuenta a las c) vocales rearticuladas (con cierre glotal), pero por la dificultad en el manejo de los signos de puntuación, por la "aparente ignorancia" de sus informantes nativos o porque realmente no se captaron las múltiples sutilezas del discurso (tales como el uso de los tonos) no se tiene actualmente una seguridad absoluta respecto a esta importante parte de la lengua, y así, las vocales siempre fueron reproducidas gráficamente de acuerdo al amanuense o al receptor (casi siempre un español acostumbrado a las pautas y prolegómenos lingüísticos del castellano del siglo XVI, XVII o XVIII, según hubiera sido el caso. -

Contribuyeron poderosísimamente a crear estas sociedades humanas que al cabo de varios siglos lograron independencia del Imperio Español y se constituyeron en Repúblicas, donde el modo colonial español no ha desaparecido y donde al indio, al negro y a no pocos mestizos y mulatos les han regateado y negado ejercer el derecho a trabajar y hacer la vida con las mismas oportunidades que a los llamamos "blancos". Así como se hace mención de los distintos grupos africanos que concurrieron al amestizamiento de nuestras poblaciones mulatas y mestizas en América y en especial en Cuba, así mismo se mencionan pueblos y culturas peninsulares, que aun cuando no eran tantos como fueron los africanos y los indios, es indudable que produjeron la mayor influencia en la estructura cultural de las naciones americanas: vinieron en los siglos XV, XVI y XVII, principalmente, andaluces en grandes cantidades; castellanos, malagueños, valencianos, madrileños, cordobeses, murcianos, galaicos judíos e islámicos conversos; guipuzcoanos y aragoneses, formaron contingentes menores que el de los andaluces, malagueños y castellanos; vino algún que otro italiano, siciliano y flamenco; Portugal aportó la etnia compleja y fuertemente galaico capsiense de su población negroide, las cuales acudieron al Brasil. En el final del siglo XVII, todo el XVIII, el XIX y las primeras dos décadas del XX, vinieron esclavos y libertos isleños canarios y berberiscos; los tercios y las guerras por las dignidades humanas de América trajeron grandes cantidades de gallegos, aragoneses, leoneses y demás tipos de campesinos de las Españas. Negros, pintos, pintados, morenos claros y oscuros, morandeiros, moreros, mulatos de todos los tipos españoles, donde lo africano y lo "ibero" se confunden, vinieron mezclados con egipcianos, célticos y capsienses. Toda esa mezcolanza étnica es "la que se llamó en América y en Africa también, "blancos puros", no siendo más que "ebese bambano".
