Abeyas, abéas ou abiétchas, son abejas. Y son las abejas sin lugar a dudas, los únicos seres de toda la Creación, que sólo se alimentan con el néctar de las flores, fecundándolas a la vez con más profundidad y eficiencia que pueda hacer ningún otro insecto. Me recuerdo con allegre (alegre) nostalgia, que en mi aldea había muchos truebanales (colmenas) y en la última semana del mes de setiembre o la primera de octubre, era cuando se mataban los truébanus (colmenas) que más miel tuviesen en sous caxiétchus (sus panales), y esto se sabía sopesándolos, aquéllos que más pesasen se les condenaba a morrer (morir). La matanza de las abéas se hacía siempre denuétche (de noche). Se hacía una cuandia (poza) en la tierra de la lloxa (huerto) dou échas entrebanaben (donde ellas se acolmenaban) y dembaxu (debajo) del truébanu que tou 'l taba 'l entestate, (de la colmena que toda ella estaba abierta) se metía una mecha de azufre y con el fumu (humo) que de este químico se desprendía, las abejas amoriaben, (se entontecían) cayendo todas dientru 'l fuexu 'morrentáes (dentro el pozo medio muertas), no quedando dentro del truébanu namái qu’angunus zánganus que fasta pa morrer yeren folgazanes. (Dentro de la colmena nada más que algunos zánganos que hasta para morir eran holgazanes). Una vez muertas las abejas se enterraban dentro de la cuandia dou morrieran (de la poza donde habían muerto) y después se procedía a sacar los caxiétchus del truébanu que se xacupaben dientru una maxeruca fecha pa tal cheldar (los panales de la colmena que se vertían dentro de una artesa hecha para tal acontecer), y con la cueta de lus gruéxus (con el canto de las hachas) se mayaban fasta que tou échu se fexera trelda. Cuántas veces yo he pensado entusiasmado y feliz, al degustar aquellas mieles que hoy ya no existen, cuando hambriento, voraz y golosamente, me comía nas cuyaraínes (cucharadas) de aquel prietiquín manxar (moreno manjar), o enfarnando 'n cantexín (untando un pedazo) de pan, digo que mi pensamiento me daba con simples y naturales raciocinios, que yo estaba encontrando en aquella miel que me engullía, todos los aromas y exquisitos gustos que alumbraban las ubérrimas plantas de mi verde valle. Allí, en aquella densa, medicinal y fortaleciente miel, en aquel elixir casi divino, fabricado por las maravillosas abejas, seres hijos de la Madre Tierra que sin usar artificios de ninguna clase, desde los mismos umbrales de la Creación, son dueñas de una técnica natural y divinizante, que aún ningún ser nacido podrá jamás con tanta naturalidad y sencillez igualar. Digo que en aquella miel se encontraba el concentrado olor y gusto de los milenarios castaños, y de todos los árboles alumbrantes de flores que poblaban las abruptas montañas y el pequeño y apacible valle de mi aldea.
