1914-2005Nacido en Winchester, Indiana, en 1933 abandona sus estudios de periodismo y marcha a California con su familia. Su hermano David le presenta a Jimmy Wilkinson, jefe del departamento de montaje de RKO, quien contrata a Wise inicialmente para transportar rollos de peliculas. Poco despues trabajara a las ordenes del montador de sonido y, dos anos mas tarde sera ayudante de montador. En 1939 sera ya montador, tarea que ejecutara en una docena de peliculas hasta 1943, en particular en Ciudadano Kane (Citizen Kane, Orson Welles, 1941). En 1943 debuta Robert Wise como director, en la unidad de produccion de Val Lewton, sustituyendo a Gunther von Fritsch, tachado de lento, en el filme The Curse of the Cat People, secuela de La mujer pantera (Cat People, Jacques Tourneur, 1942). 1897-1987Hans Detlef Sierck, nacido en Hamburgo de padres daneses, es uno de los reyes del melodrama cinematografico. En 1922 empieza su carrera teatral. Contratado por la UFA en 1934, dirige unas cuantas peliculas hasta que se ve obligado a salir de Alemania en 1937. Empieza a dirigir peliculas en los Estados unidos en 1942, pero su epoca gloriosa empieza un par de anos despues de ser contratado por Univer sal en 1950. Realiza hasta 1958 un punado de peliculas, algunas de ellas remakes de las dirigidas en los anos 30 por John M. Stahl, del que parece recoger el testigo de especialista en el melodrama mas genuino. Este estupendo director supo mostrar ma gistralmente el conglomerado de contradictorios sentimientos que forman parte del discurrir vital de los seres humanos. Peliculas como Escrito sobre el viento (Written in the Wind, 1956) o Imitacion a la vida (Imitation of Life, 1958), la ultima que dirigio, convierten el cine en una experiencia irresistible. Abordo, a lo largo de su carrera, otros generos, la mayoria de las veces con solvencia. 1907-1979Nacido en Winterset, Iowa, Marion Michael Morrison fue un excelente deportista. Un poco por azar em pieza a tener pequenos papeles en peliculas y conoce al director John Ford. Despues de dos anos de trabajo en Fox obtiene su primer papel principal en La gran jornada (The Big Trail, Raoul Walsh, 1930), pero el fracaso comercial de la pelicula lo relego a ser cabeza de algunas series, en Monogram y en Republic sobre todo, dirigido por Robert North Brad bury y otros realizadores de parecido pelaje. Con La diligencia (Stagecoach, John Ford, 1939) alcanzo de finitivamente el estrellato, participando en lo sucesivo en proyectos de diversa indole hasta 1976, en que interpreto su ultima pelicula. Aunque actuo en peliculas belicas y, en general, en filmes de todo tipo, sobre todo de accion, siempre sera recordado como uno de los reyes del western.
