In Verbindung mit den Wörtern, »wer, wie, wenn, was«, wird »wollen« durch ein angehängtes - cumque ausgedrückt (und es folgt nach solchen mit - cumque zusammengesetzten Wörtern immer der Indikativ, wenn nicht die Oratio obliqua oder ein anderer Grund den Konjunktiv nötig macht), z.B. es komme wer da wolle, quicumque venit: es sei was es wolle, quodcumque est: er (sie, es) sei oder mag gewesen sein wie er (sie, es) wolle, qualiscumque est u. bl. qualiscumque (z.B. occīdi uxorem meam qualemcumque): dem sei wie ihm wolle, quicquid est; utcumque res se habet; es geschehe sooft es nur wolle, quotiescumque est: sie mögen kommen soviel ihrer nur wollen, quotcumque veniunt: es geschehe wie es wolle, quomodocumque fit.
wohin (gehen, reisen, gelangen etc.) wollen, alqm od. alqm locum visere velle (jmd. od. einen Ort besuchen wollen, z.B. Asiam); tendere ad m. Akk. od. mit bl. lokat. Akk. (seinen Weg wohin richten; daher auch in der Frage: quo tendis? u. unde venis et quo tendis?); alqo pervenire velle (wohin gelangen wollen, z.B. eo quo pervenire volumus [wohin wir wollen], semitae multae ferunt).
Gew. wird im Briefstil u. in der Umgangssprache nach velle (wollen) u. cogitare (willens sein) ein allgemeines Verbum wie ire, habere (gerade wie im Deutschen) weggelassen, z.B. ich will nach Rom, Romam volo, cogito: wenn sie den alten Getreidepreis (haben) wollen, si annonam veterem volunt.
Übrigens wird »wollen« in vielen Fällen gar nicht besonders im Latein. übersetzt, und zwar: a) wenn »wollen« gebraucht wird, um einen Entschluß zu bezeichnen, der künftig erst ausgeführt werden soll, so gebrauchen die Lateiner das einfache Futur. zur Angabe der Zukunft im allgem., das Futur. periphrast. von der nahe bevorstehenden Zukunft, z.B. ich will reisen, proficiscar (übh. einmal in der Zukunft); profecturus sum (ich bin im Begriff zu reisen). – Auch steht dann häufig die Umschreibung: in eo est, ut etc. (es ist auf dem Punkte, daß ich etc.), z.B. als sie sich schon der Stadt bemächtigen wollten, cum iam in eo esset, ut oppido potirentur. – b) bei Aufforderungen od. Ermahnungen steht im Latein. bloß der Konjunktiv, z.B. wir wollen gehen, eamus. – Wird die Ermunterung mit einer gewissen Hast od. Eile ausgesprochen, so steht quin mit dem Indikat., z.B. wollen wir nicht gehen? quin imus? Ebenso steht in ungeduldigen Fragen, die den Begriff einer Aufforderung in sich schließen, etiam mit Indikativ, z.B. willst du gleich schweigen? etiam taces? – Endlich c) dient »wollen« übh. oft nur zu einer paraphrasierenden Umschreibung, wo es im Latein. durchaus nicht besonders übersetzt werden darf, z.B. ich will nicht hoffen, non spero: ich will nicht in Abrede stellen, non infitior: [2736] ich will nicht behaupten, non dico: ich will vergessen, obliviscor: ich will nur das eine sagen, hoc unum dico: wenn wir die Wahrheit sagen wollen, si verum dicimus (doch auch verum si loqui volumus, si verum fateri volumus): Trostworte wollte ich nicht gebrauchen, weil etc., consolatione non utebar, quod etc.
