Международная организация, созданная в 1995 г. в результате восьмого Уругвайского раунда переговоров в рамках Генерального соглашения по тарифам и торговле с передачей ей всех полномочий ГАТТ (см. General Agreement on Tarrifs and Trade). Организация призвана регулировать нормы международной торговли и содействовать ее дальнейшей либерализации. Высшим руководящим органом ВТО является Конференция министров (Ministrial Conference), в которую входят представители всех членов организации. Конференция созывается раз в два года, и на ней разрабатываются основные направления политики ВТО.
