A scold — это сварливая баба, а a bridle — это металлическое устройство, которое применялось для наказания сварливой, злобной женщины. Там имелось кольцо, вдеваемое в нос, для верёвки или цепи, за которую водили наказанную по улицам как предостережение другим.
