Уступить, покориться кому-либо. В настоящее время мы используем слово knuckle только в значении «сустав пальца», а раньше это слово имело более широкое значение и обозначало любую кость, которая заканчивалась суставом. В этом контексте глагол to knuckle under означает преклонить колена в знак уступки или поражения.
