Наутро Будю пристает к служанке, опрокидывает поднос, чистит ботинки шелковым покрывалом, оставляет за собой открытыми краны и т. д. Но что хуже всего - он плюет на Бальзакову «Физиологию брака», и с этим не может смириться даже такой терпимый человек, как Лестенгуа. Он поручает спровадить чужака своей жене мадам Лестенгуа, женщине нервной и недовольной жизнью. Однако та очарована клошаром с повадками фавна и падает в его объятия. Удивительно используя глубину планов и длинные проезды камеры, Ренуар создает вокруг Будю атмосферу беззаботности, апатии и эйфории, сокращая до минимума жесты и передвижения персонажей.Наверное, ни один фильм до такой степени не срастался со своим главным актером. Невозможно представить Будю без Мишеля Симона; впрочем, без него фильма бы не было: именно Симон стал его вдохновителем и продюсером.
