94 self-insurance
auto-assurance fLooking for a way to manage costs and have greater control over the health benefits you provide your employees? Self-insurance may be a workable alternative. Self-insuring means you pay health benefits with corporate assets rather than paying a premium to transfer that responsibility to a third party, says James Kinder, CEO of the Self-Insurance Institute of America in Santa Ana, California.

95 going forward
•• The cost base adjustment made by London-listed specialist banker Investec last year is paying off and the group is a lot more confident going forward, CEO Stephen Koseff said on Monday.
•• Going forward, the Party as well as the government and the nongovernmental community, must take those steps which are possible within existing resources, to promote a culture of production.
•• Going forward is a relatively new and apparently convenient way to indicate a progression in time from the present. The term suggests a continuing and progressive movement rather than, as “ in the future” can sometimes mean, some specific future date. Like many such expressions, it means enough to be useful while also being suitably vague. The term is widely used in annual reports and other corporate statements and, like such terms as venue and cautionary tale, seems to have been readily adopted by news media writers. The term has become increasingly popular in press releases from Internet start-ups and newly public companies.
•• In information technology, vanilla (pronounced vah-NIHL-uh) is an adjective meaning plain or basic. The unfeatured version of a product is sometimes referred to as the vanilla version.
•• The term is based on the fact that vanilla is the most popular or at least the most commonly served flavor of ice cream. Or, as Eric Raymond, editor of The New Hacker’s Dictionary, puts it, the default ice cream.
•• “ Going forward” also has a longer-standing usage as the starting, continuing, or resumption of activity on something that has been planned previously, such as an engineering project or a summit conference.
CNN.com:
•• Justice going forward with probe into leak of CIA name.
•• The term “ going forward” in relation to the time in which any particular solution is to be implemented irks me to no end.
•• Близко к going forward выражение down the road, которое тоже любят бизнесмены и журналисты, пишущие о бизнесе. International Herald Tribune:
•• Severstal management owns roughly 83 percent of the company’s stock, <...> and that concentration of ownership in management’s hands could present a risk for minority investors down the road.

100 exchange rate risk
Finthe risk of suffering loss on converting another currency to the currency of a company’s own country.EXAMPLEExchange rate risks can be arranged into three primary categories. (1.) Economic exposure: operating costs will rise due to changes in rates and make a product uncompetitive in the world market. Little can be done to reduce this routine business risk that every enterprise must endure. (2.) Translation exposure: the impact of currency exchange rates will reduce a company’s earnings and weaken its balance sheet. To reduce translation exposure, experienced corporate fund managers use a range of techniques known as currency hedging. (3.) Transaction exposure: there will be an unfavorable move in a specific currency between the time when a contract is agreed and the time it is completed, or between the time when a lending or borrowing is initiated and the time the funds are repaid. Transaction exposure can be eased by factoring: transferring title to foreign accounts receivable to a third-party factoring house.Although there is no definitive way of forecasting exchange rates, largely because the world’s economies and financial markets are evolving so rapidly, the relationships between exchange rates, interest rates, and inflation rates can serve as leading indicators of changes in risk. These relationships are as follows. Purchasing Power Parity theory (PPP): while it can be expressed differently, the most common expression links the changes in exchange rates to those in relative price indices in two countries:Rate of change of exchange rate = Difference in inflation ratesInternational Fisher Effect (IFE): this holds that an interest-rate differential will exist only if the exchange rate is expected to change in such a way that the advantage of the higher interest rate is offset by the loss on the foreign exchange transactions. Practically speaking, the IFE implies that while an investor in a low-interest country can convert funds into the currency of a high-interest country and earn a higher rate, the gain (the interest rate differential) will be offset by the expected loss due to foreign exchange rate changes. The relationship is stated as:Expected rate of change of the exchange rate = Interest-rate differentialUnbiased Forward Rate Theory: this holds that the forward exchange rate is the best unbiased estimate of the expected future spot exchange rate.Expected exchange rate = Forward exchange rate
