6 bridge
1) мостаппаратно-программное устройство, соединяющее две или более физические локальные сети (LAN), имеющие, возможно, различные топологии, но один и тот же протокол. Мост, по существу, превращает несколько малых сетей в одну большую, пропуская через себя трафик в обе стороны без выбора оптимального маршрута. Он анализирует в пакете поле адреса пункта назначения и сравнивает его с таблицей, в которой указаны адреса всех рабочих станций данного сегмента сети. Если адрес не соответствует ни одному из них, то пакет передаётся в следующий сегмент. Такие мосты (их называют прозрачными, transparent bridge) продолжают передавать пакет переход за переходом, пока тот не достигнет станции назначения. Мосты функционируют на подуровне управления доступом к среде передачи (МАС) канального уровня (т. е. обслуживают физический и канальный уровни), не понимают и не связаны с протоколами более высокого уровня. Они применяются, если в сети используются разнотипные среды передачи (например, витые пары и оптоволокно) и/или разные скорости передачи, так как мост буферизует пакеты. Кроме того, применение мостов повышает эффективность работы сети, так как с их помощью трафик локализуется в пределах подсети. Современные мосты умеют соединять ЛВС с различными протоколами, соответствующим образом преобразуя трафик. Такие мосты называются мост-маршрутизатор или брутер.
