Он с равным блеском может добиться успеха в нуаре (Двойная страховка, Double Indemnity), психологической драме (Потерянные выходные, The Lost Weekend), биографическом жизнеописании пионера авиации (Дух Сент-Луиса, The Spirit of St. Louis, 1957), безупречной экранизации Агаты Кристи о связи между ложью и правдой (Свидетель обвинения, The Witness for Prosecution, 1957), необычном погружении в заповедные глубины психологии самого знаменитого сыщика в истории детективного жанра (Частная жизнь Шерлока Холмса, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, 1970). на сцене в пьесе Клары Бут Люс «Допуск на ошибку», затем – в фильмах Волынщик, The Pied Piper, Ирвинг Пичел, 1942; Меня накрыли, They Got Me Covered, Дэйвид Батлер, 1943, и в собственной экранизации Допуска на ошибку, Margin for Error, 1943. -
