Le système métrique est de plus en plus utilisé en Grande-Bretagne et aux États-Unis pour les mesures de longueur. Mais les anciennes mesures ont encore cours, et sont quelquefois préférées, notamment pour les distances, exprimées en miles, et non en kilomètres.
