Категория сервиса ATM, для которой ограничения характеристик передачи ATM могут изменять организуемые впоследствии соединения. Механизм управления потоком поддерживает несколько типов обратной связи для управления скоростью источника в зависимости от изменений характеристик передачи. Предполагается, что конечная система, адаптирующая свой трафик в соответствии с обратной связью, будет иметь малую потерю ячеек и получит полосу в соответствии с возможностями сети и установленными правилами. Вариации задержки не контролируются при этом типе обслуживания, хотя ячейки не задерживаются без необходимости.

доступная скорость передачи
Обозначение, применяемое для асинхронного типа трафика в сетях ATM (класс С). Данный тип трафика используется для передачи неравномерных потоков данных с негарантированным качеством обслуживания QoS (в нормальных условиях работы поток данных передается с заданной скоростью и минимальными задержками). При возникновении перегрузки сети предусмотрен механизм, позволяющий плавно снижать скорости передачи в канале в зависимости от доступных сетевых ресурсов, что гарантирует завершение всех оставшихся приоритетных соединений.
