Wenn anders durch δέχαται feststeht, daß Homer ein nichtreduplicirtes perfect. von δέχομαι kennt, so können offenbar die Formen ἐδέγμην, δέκτο, δέξο, δέδεξο, δέχϑαι, δέγμενος, δέγμενοι, δεδεγμένος, δεδεγμένα eben so wohl perfect. und plusquamperfect. wie syncopirte Aoriste sein; in δέδεξο und δεδεγμένος, δεδεγμένα shucopirte Aoriste zu sehn verhindert die Reduplication so wenig wie der Accent, welchen letzteren in δεδέξο und δεδέγμενος, δεδέγμενα zu ändern beliebig scelsteht, wie man auch δεγμένος, δεγμένοι statt δέγμενος, δέγμενοι betonen darf, Von der syntactischen Tempusbdtg aus dem Zusammenhange der einzelnen Stellen Entscheidungsgründe in dieser Sache hernehmen zu wollen ist um so unthunlicher, als die Enallage der Temrora bei Homer ein so sehr weites Gebiet hat; man denke nur z. B. an βεβήκει und βεβλήκει. Deshalb ist auch Buttmanns Ansicht für verfehlt zu halten, welcher Ausf. Gr. Ausg. 2 Bd 2 § 114 S. 148 die fraglichen Formen in zwei Gruppen vertheilt, aorist. syncop. ἐδέγμην » ich nahm an« und perfect. mit Präsens-Bedtg δέδεγμαι oder δέγμαι » ich erwarte« nebst plusquamperf. ἐδέγμην mit Imperfect-Bdtg. Wie mißlich es um diese zu scharfe Unterscheidung steht, zeigt schon z. B. die Stelle Iliad. 22, 340 ἀλλὰ σὺ μὲν χαλκόν τε ἅλις χρυσόν τε δέδεξο, wo Buttmann die einfache und natürliche Erklärung »nimm an« vetwerfen muß, um einen seiner Theorie entsprechenden Sinn »erwarte«, »sei gewärtig«, »sei bereit anzunehmen«, in die Worte des Dichters hineinzukünsteln. Auch Iliad. 11, 124 ist χρυσὸν Ἀλεξάνδροιο δεδεγμένος sicherlich nicht = »erwartend«, sondern = »empfangen habend«. Seiner Bedeutung wegen hat man auch das vereinzelte δεδοκημένος Iliad. 15, 730 hierhergezogen, welches der Form nach zu δοκέω gehört. ἔνϑ' ἄρ' ὅ γ' ἑστήκει δεδοκημένος, ἔγχεϊ δ' αίεὶ Τρῶας ἄμυνε νεῶν, den Angriff erwartend stand er da; Apoll. Lex. Homer. p. 57, 17 δεδοκημένος· ἐκδεχόμενος, ἐπιτηρῶν; vgl. δοκεύω. Die Formen δειδέχαται. δειδέχατο, δείδεκτο s. s. v. δείκνυμι. Vgl. noch die Homerischen composita ἀναδέχομαι, ἀποδέχομαι, ἐκδέχομαι, παραδὲχομαι, προσδέχομαι, ὑποδέχομαι. Die Dichter nach Homer gebrauchen zum Theil die mehrdeutigen Homerischen Formen von δέχομαι und außerdem noch einige ähnliche; z. B. Hom. hymn. Apoll. 538 δέδεχϑε, Hesiod. Scut. 214 δεδοκημένος, Pind. Pyth. 8, 19 ἔδεκτο, Erinna Anth. P. 6, 352 (Bergh. P. L. G. ed. 2 frgm. 4 p. 703) δέξο; Eurip. Rhes. 525 δέχϑαι; Theocrit. 7, 78 ἔδεκτο. Bei Aeschyl. und Sophocl. nur Formen vom regelmäß. Attischen a verbo δέχομαι, δέξομαι, ἐδεξάμην, δέδεγμαι. Die Bedeutung von δέχομαι ist ursprünglich rein sinnlich; so z. B. Ham. Iliad. 1, 596 παιδὸς ἐδέξατο χειρὶ κύπελλον, Odyss. 5, 462 Ἰνὼ δέξατο χερσὶ φίλῃσιν. Von λαμβάνειν unterscheidet Ammon. Voc. diff.. δέχεσϑαι so : Λᾳβεῖν καὶ δέξασϑαι διαφέρει· λαβεῖν μὲν γάρ ἐστι τὸ κείμενόν τι ἀνελέσϑαι, δέξασϑαι δὲ τὸ διδόμενον ἐκ χειρός. Daß die Hand allerdings ursprünglich bei δέχεσϑαι eine Haupteolle spielte, δέχεσϑαι = mit der Hand annehmen, fassen, zeigt schon die Verwandtschaft mit δεξιός und δέκα, welche man vgl. Δέχεσϑαι und λαμβάνειν verbunden Demosth. 19, 139 οὐκ ἐδέξαντο οὐδ' ἔλαβον ταῦτα οἱ τῶν Θεβαίων πρέσβεις, nämlich χρήματα ἃ ἐκεῖνος ἐβούλετο δοῠναι; Xenoph. Weber stellt diese Form κάν in einer ganzen Reihe von Stellen verschiedener Auctoren her. – Aus dieser Form κάν ist entstanden: 1) das Dorische κά, dessen α Weber ebenfalls für kurz hält, während es sonst allgemein für lang gehalten wurde; 2) das Ionische κέν, κέ; 3) höchst wahrscheinlich auch das in der Attischen Prosa allein gebräuchliche ἄν, durch Abfall des κ; man vgl. z. B. γαῖα und αἶα, κελεύϑομαι, κλεύϑωμαι, κέλευϑος und ἐλεύϑομαι, ἐλεύσομαι, ἤλυϑον, ἐλήλυϑα. Weber scheint dem ἄν einen anderen Ursprung beizumessen als dem κάν, s. S. 13. – Die Form κάν ihrerseits scheint abgeschwächt zu sein aus dem im Sanskrit sich findenden kăm, welches nach Weber vom interrogativ-indefiniten Pronominalstamm ka herkommt und ursprünglich Form des Neutrums ist, Accusat.
