1922Arnold Laven, Arthur Gardner y Jules V. Levy se conocen en las Fuerzas Aereas, en 1943. Al abandonar el ejercito se proponen producir peliculas. Hasta que puedan cumplir su proposito, trabajan en el cine, en cometidos varios. Laven, concretamente, lo hace para la Warner hasta que se incorpora de forma efectiva a tareas de direccion en 1952, ano en que los socios estrenan su primera pelicula, Without Warning, donde los otros dos ejercen como productores. Esta asociacion se mantendra en anos sucesivos y sera responsable de un punado de peliculas y, sobre todo, de series de television. En total, Laven dirige once peliculas, entre 1952 y 1969. 1906-2006Nacido en Vienna, Georgia, actor en Broadway y en la gran pantalla, entre 1939 y 1967 Vincent Sher man dirige una treintena de peliculas de genero, primero modestas peliculas para Warner Bros y mas tarde otras, de mas empaque, en las que tuvo que dirigir a actrices de la talla de Joan Crawford y Bette Davis, lo que le valio cierto renombre como “director de mujeres”. De origen judio, su nombre verdadero fue Abram Orovitz, y entre sus peliculas las hay buenas, menos buenas y francamente malas. Entre las primeras, sin duda, Estrella del destino; entre las ultimas, tambien sin duda, Sola ante el peligro. Despues de dirigir su ultimo largometraje, Cervantes (1967), protagonizado por el actor aleman Horst Buchholz, estuvo casi dos decadas trabajando para television. 1889-1943Nacido en San Diego, William S. Van Dyke fue actor infantil, tanto de vodevil como, despues, de cine. No nos encontramos ante un realizador genial y creativo sino, por el contrario, ante un hombre con un alto grado de profesionalidad, minucioso, incapaz de estropear una buena historia y, en muchos casos, perfectamente capaz de elevarla por encima de su nivel. No es de extranar, en consecuencia, la buena imagen que tuvo siempre dentro del mundo de Ho llywood, que premio sus buenos oficios con dos Os car, el primero por La cena de los acusados (The Thin Man, 1934) y el segundo por San Francisco (1936).Uno de sus grandes exitos lo obtuvo precisamente con La cena de los acusados, ba sada en la ultima novela de Dashiell Hammett, que es el origen de hasta cinco secuelas, de las que las tres inmediatamente siguientes llevan tambien la firma de Van Dyke. Conocido como “Woody Una Toma” por su rapidez y seguridad durante el rodaje, estuvo muy vinculado, personal y profesionalmente, a la pareja artistica formada por Jeannette MacDonald y Nelson Eddy, a quienes dirigio en seis peliculas y media de las ocho que protagonizaron juntos (la media corresponde a Luna llena, New Moon, 1940, empezada por Van Dyke y terminada por Robert Z. Leonard, quien recibio la correspondiente acreditacion). A pesar de morir poco antes de cumplir los 54 anos, su filmografia es suficientemente abundante.Rose-Marie (Rose Marie). 1936. 113 minutos.
