    1887-1980
       Nacido en Nueva York el 11 de marzo de 1887, los primeros anos de la vida de Raoul Walsh son oscuros. Lo encontramos ya, sin duda, en 1907 como actor de la version teatral de “The Clansman”, novela de Thomas Dixon que inspirarara a David W. Griffith su celebre pelicula El nacimiento de una nacion (The Birth of a Nation, 1915). Despues de la correspondiente gira, de vuelta ya en su ciudad natal, continua con su carrera de actor que, entre otros logros, lo lleva a interpretar, a las ordenes de Griffith, el papel de John Wilkes Booth, asesino del presidente Lincoln, en El nacimiento de una nacion. Ya antes, en 1914, habia empezado a dirigir bajo la supervision del propio Griffith.
       Su primer largometraje, co-realizado por Christy Cabanne, es Life of Villa (1915), pero sus dos peliculas mudas mas famosas son, sin discusion, The Thief of Bagdad (El ladron de Bagdad, 1924), deslumbrante espectaculo visual ro dado para la productora de su protagonista, Douglas Fairbanks, y La fragil voluntad (Sadie Thompson, 1928), melodrama a la medida de su protagonista, Gloria Swanson, que produjo el filme. Hasta entonces, albores ya del sonoro, Walsh no habia prestado una atencion especial al western. Lo hizo de inmediato, como muestran sus primeros filmes sonoros del genero, En el viejo Ari zona (In Old Arizona, 1929), que fue el primero de una larga lista con el Cisco Kid como protagonista, y La gran jornada (The Big Trail, 1930), de larga duracion y largo presupuesto. Precisamente durante el rodaje de la primera de las dos peliculas citadas perdio un ojo en un accidente, por lo que tuvo que ser sustituido por Warner Baxter como protagonista de la pelicula, y auxiliado por Irving Cummings en la direccion. En la Fox entre 1929 y 1935, en la Paramount hasta 1939 y en lo sucesivo en Warner Bros, Raoul Walsh ira consolidando su categoria como realizador hasta 1964, ano de estreno de su ultima pelicula, precisamente un western, hermoso y testimonial.
       Aunque sus habilidades como creador cinematografico tienen mas largo alcance que el que se limita al western, dejemos constancia de que, con toda probabilidad, es en este genero donde consigue sus mejores obras, sencillas, serenas, con un importante sentido de la narracion en imagenes. Como caso curioso, hay que indicar que Walsh hizo un remake de dos de sus peliculas, El ultimo refugio (High Sierra, 1941), dura historia de gangsters inscrita de lleno en el genero negro que convirtio en una estrella a Humphrey Bogart, y Objetivo Birmania (Objective Burma!, 1945), filme belico. Ambos remakes los realizo en clave de western: Juntos hasta la muerte (Colorado Territory, 1949) y Tam bores lejanos (Distant Drums, 1951), respectivamente. Algo indica este detalle sobre su “aficion” al genero. Al final de su carrera construyo algunos de sus mejores westerns, y tambien alguno que otro en tono de parodia, como Un rey para cuatro reinas (The King and Four Queens, 1956) y La rubia y el sheriff (The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw, 1959).

    Busgóuxu, dios mitológico astur que habita en los bosques cercanos a los pastos, y cuando en éstos el Busgóuxu ve alguna muchacha apacentando sus ganados, la tienta y la embruja de tal misteriosa manera, que cualquier hombre que en tales trances junto a ella llegare, sería reducido por la muchacha arrastrándole a una orgía de placer, que ninguno de los dos en su vida olvidaría jamás. Dicen que el busgóuxu es el espíritu de todos los sátiros del mundo. Cuentan de él también que es un dios hermoso a pesar que lo pintan como a chivo sarnoso, que no tendría ninguna misión positiva para existir. —Pero todos los jóvenes de los tiempos pasados que vivían atados a la dura y miserable existencia de ser humildes campesinos y pobres pastores de las tierras hermosas de la dulce Asturias, cuento que todos sabemos que el Busdeigu (Busgóuxu) existe, y que no es un duende feo como el chivo sarnoso, sino que es hermoso, tentador, ardiente y sátiro, que muchas veces nos llevaba al amor inocente y puro, sin saber por que se llegaba a la natural fuente que le da razón de placer al Hombre. A mi que la experiencia me había enseñado a huir de la quema antes que el fuego me prendiese, me aconsejaba que me marchase con prisa de aquel peligro, que iba a martirizar mi cuerpo con aquel manojo de ortigas. —Pero cuando vi a mi lado con la cabeza baja y desconsolada llorando a la pobrecita de Rafaela, hasta el fin entristecida y más avergonzada que el enorme miedo que en su entraña lugar hiciera, se me apagó la enorme gana que de huir tenía, y me quedé al lado de la santina Rafaela, y cuando llegamos frente de su padre, éste se levantó del bebedero donde estuviera en la espera, me cogió debajo de su brazo como al niño que era, y sin tener ninguna necesidad de bajarme el pantalón porque tenía rota toda la culera, estando mis nalgas al puro aire, pues me atizó con aquel fogueroso manojo de ortigas tal cantidad de manojazos, que todavía es el día de hoy, que cuando me recuerdo, me hierven las nalgas lo mismo que si encima de ellas el fuego pusieran. —Dulce juventud, lo más honrado y hermoso que nadie mejor poder hiciera, que nadie os robe la libertad, luchad siempre por ella; pero hacerlo con imaginación, usando la preparación cultural que hoy os acompaña sin hacer jamás uso de la fuerza, porque por hacer tal cosa, las otras juventudes que hoy son maduras o viejas, sembraron en Nuestra Patria ríos de lágrimas y de sufriencias, tumbas por todos los lados repletas de cadáveres, que eran nuestros padres y nuestros queridos hermanos, e hicieron que mis generaciones fueran las más desgraciadas de cuantas en el mundo nacieran. ¡Dulce Juventud... haced el futuro de Nuestra Patria hermanado y feliz, para que os miren sin miedo y con respeto, las otras juventudes venideras! —Y ahora díganme ustedes si en este suceso, no había unos duendecitos buenos y malos, que bien pudieran llamarse los Busdeigus o Busgóuxus.

    Calzaúras, las calzaúras son los zapatos por así decir del ramu (rastro) y de la carriétcha, las calzaúres lu mesmu que lus caidones del ramu ya la carrieya, tenen que ser de les cogüétches de lus espiñeirus, lus carbayus, les fayes, frisnus, uxéa de toes les maeres más dures, perque xi se baxa puengu per exemplu 'n corceguéu de yerba disdi un préu alonxáu de l'aldina nuna gora d'andadieya, per un camin de pedras d'oxizu, ya nun ta la yerbe ben ubrá, fixu que con dous ramáus que se baxen, manquei les calzaúres sean d'espiñeiru ou carbayu, fixu qu'oitra vez ún ten que calzare 'l ramu, senún esfaranse lus tendales. (Las calzaduras lo mismo que los timones de los rastros, tienen que ser de las cepas de los espineros, los robles, las hayas, los fresnos, o sea de las maderas más duras, porque si se baja pongo por ejemplo, un rastro de hierba desde un prado alejado de la aldea una hora de andadura, por un camino de piedras volcánicas y no está la hierba bien curada (seca), fijo que con dos rastros que se bajen, aunque las calzaduras sean de la madera más dura, fijo que otra vez hay que calzar el rastro, sino se desharán los tendales. (Tablones del rastro). —Yo desde siempre he considerado que todas las palabras de la Llingua d'Asturias están atadas, ligadas, son la vida del pastoreo y el campo, por lo tanto quienes desde niños no hayan vivido intensamente esta clase de trabajos, no pueden contar absolutamente nada por muy buenos plagiadores que sean de despacho. Y si se atreven a hacerlo, como de hecho lo hacen, sus decires mistificados y casi del todo falso, serán la risa de los entendidos en tan hermosa materia como es la Falancia d'Asturias, y contribuirán al enredo y engaño, aunque por otra parte yo también pienso, que las gentes asturianas llevan en el alma la verdad de sus auténticas raíces, y por muchos títulos que tengan «estos profesores del plagio y la mentira», jamás podrán equivocar al más incauto de los astures.
