45 Anthracite Strike of 1902
истКрупная забастовка на шахтах восточной Пенсильвании. Началась весной 1902 по призыву Объединенного профсоюза шахтеров [ United Mine Workers of America] с требованиями повышения оплаты труда, повышения техники безопасности и признания профсоюза менеджментом предприятий. Из-за стачки многие районы остались без отопления. В результате вмешательства президента Т. Рузвельта [ Roosevelt, Theodore (Teddy)], пригласившего представителей обеих сторон в Белый дом [ White House], была создана правительственная арбитражная комиссия, выработавшая компромиссные условия прекращения конфликта. Когда управляющие отказались от предложенных комиссией условий, Рузвельт пригрозил им отправкой на места войск и взятия предприятий под контроль федеральных властей. Забастовка закончилась в марте 1903, шахтерам была повышена зарплата и установлен 9-часовый рабочий день, однако профсоюз так и не признали.
