С драматургической и визуальной точек зрения Окно во двор дарит удовольствие, сравнимое с тем, что получает мыслящий человек при знакомстве с хорошо продуманной системой или философским трактатом. Мир в этом фильме поделен на отрезки, небольшие участки реальности и смысла, ограниченные в данном случае геометрическим пространством окон, в которые подглядывает герой-вуайер. Глазами героя Хичкок с язвительной и пессимистичной иронией, а также с виртуозностью, которую можно назвать гениальной, показывает все последовательные стадии семейной жизни. На фоне духовного одиночества и физической ограниченности пространства перед нами предстает широкая панорама: от страстного медового месяца до хладнокровного преднамеренного убийства, и становится чем-то вроде масштабной фрески на тему некоммуникабельности. Обстановка важнее сюжета (он тоже всего лишь фрагмент обстановки); она внушает зрителю мысль о бесконечности мира. Идея микрокосма находит здесь превосходное воплощение и небывалую силу выразительности. Также стоит отметить фантастическое мастерство в использовании звука для усиления драматургии и реалистичности картины.N.В.
