    полиелей (от греч. πολύς — многий и έλεος – милость; или от πολύς – многий и έλαιον – елей). По первому словопроизводству полиелей означает многомилостивый, а по второму – многоелеен. Полиелеем называется та часть праздничной утрени, которая начинается пением псалмов 134 и 135 – «Хвалите имя Господне», «Исповедайтеся Господеви» – и продолжается до начала канона. В Русской Церкви во время полиелея священнослужитель помазывает молящихся святым елеем. Созвучие греческих слов έλεος — и έλαιον – не случайно. Оно указывает на то, что елей, как вещество смягчающее и целительное, служит символом Божественной милости, умягчающей и исцеляющей греховные язвы

Plut., Mor. 514e χάριν παρασκευάζοντες ἀλλήλοις), but a ref. to the means by which divine grace is mediated is not to be ruled out (s. b below).

God is called ὁ θεὸς πάσης χάριτος 1 Pt 5:10, i.e. God, who is noted for any conceivable benefit or favor; cp. Js 4:6a (Menand., Epitr. 231 S. [55 Kö.]). Perh. καὶ ἔβαλλε κύριος … χάριν ἐπʼ αὐτήν GJs 7:3 (but s. 1 above). The Logos is πλήρης χάριτος J 1:14. Those who belong to him receive of the fullness of his grace, χάριν ἀντὶ χάριτος vs. 16 (ἀντί 2). Cp. vs. 17. τὴν χάριν ταύτην ἐν ᾗ ἑστήκαμεν this favor (of God) we now enjoy Ro 5:2 (Goodsp.).—5:17; 1 Cor 1:4; 2 Cor 4:15 (divine beneficence in conversion); cp. The proclamation of salvation is the message of divine beneficence τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς χάριτος τοῦ θεοῦ Ac 20:24 or ὁ λόγος τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ (=τοῦ κυρίου) 14:3; 20:32. Of effects produced by divine beneficence which go beyond those associated with a specific Christian’s status (ins μεγάλαι χάριτες τοῦ θεου: FCumont, Syria 7, 1926, 347ff), in the congregations of Macedonia 2 Cor 8:1 and Corinth 9:14; cp. vs. 8; in Rome AcPl Ha 7, 8. The Christian confessor is in full possession of divine grace ISm 11:1. Paul knows that through the χάρις of God he has been called to be an apostle, and that he has been fitted out w. the powers and capabilities requisite for this office fr. the same source: Ro 1:5; 12:3; 15:15; 1 Cor 3:10; 15:10ab (for the subject matter cp. Polyb. 12, 12b, 3 αὐτὸν [Alex. the Great] ὑπὸ τοῦ δαιμονίου τετευχέναι τούτων ὧν ἔτυχεν=whatever he has received he has received from what is divine.     εἰς und ἐς, letzteres ion., dor. u. altattisch, z. B. bei Thuc. vorherrschend; bei den Dichtern vermischt gebraucht; in den Tragg. u. Com. herrscht εἰς; in gewissen Vrbdgn, wie ἐς κόρακας, ἐς μακαρίαν, kommt εἰς nie vor; im Xen. schwankt die Lesart oft, vgl. Krüger zu An. 5, 3, 1; altdorisch u. böotisch ἐν, Greg. Cor. 355; auch ἴς in böotischen Inschriften; die alte Grundform ἐνς erwähnt Eust. Il. p. 722, 60 als argivisch u. kretisch, vgl. Koen zu Greg. C. a. a. O. – Präposition mit dem acc. Die allg. Bedeutung ist die Bewegung nach Etwas hinein. – 1) am häufigsten von Ländern bei den Verbis, die eine Bewegung ausdrücken, von Hom. an überall. Nach griechischer Weise steht oft der Name der Einwohner für das Land, εἰς τοὺς Καρδούχους ἐμβάλλειν Xen. An. 3, 6, 16; ἄγειν εἰς τοὺς βαρβάρους 1, 3, 5, wo Krüger zu vgl.; εἰς Πέρσας πορεύεσϑαι Cyr. 8, 5, 20; πέμπειν εἰς τοὺς Βοιωτούς Thuc. 5, 32. – Damit ist zu vgl. die bei den Rednern häufige Vrbdg ἰόντες εἰς ὑμᾶς, Antipho 5, 80; Lycurg. 11; γραφεὶς τὸν ἀγῶνα τοῠτον εἰς ὑμᾶς εἰςῆλϑον Dem. 18, 103; vgl. 28, 17; εἰς τὸν δῆμον παρελϑεῖν Thuc. 5, 45; εἴ τις εἰςίοι γραφὴν εἰς δικαστήριον Aesch. 3, 191; überall an die Volks- oder Richterversammlung als den Ort zu denken, in den man eintritt. H. 7, 8; εἰς τὸ πρυτανεῖον ἐσιτεῖτο Heliod. 1, 10; Gramm. citiren mit ζήτει εἰς τὸ δεῖνα, z. B. ζήτει εἰς τὰ ἐπάνω, d. h. »siehe oben«, also = ζήτει ἐν τοῖς ἐπάνω. – 3) Nicht das Eindringen in einen Ort, sondern nur die Richtung wohin bezeichnet es bei Xen. An. 4, 7, 2 ἀφίκοντο εἰς χωρίον, wo sie nicht hineinkommen, wie εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἥλλοντο Cyr. 1, 4, 11; τὸ εἰς Παλλήνην τεῖχος, dahin gelegen, Thuc. 1, 56; vgl. 5, 82 u.     Selten steht εἰς dem davon abhängigen Worte nach, wie Il. 15, 59 Od. 3, 137. 15, 541; Soph. O. C. 126, ch.; Eur. Alc. 85; in einzelnen Beispielen der späteren Dichter.

    In der Zusammensetzung bedeutet εἰς hinein, hinan, hinzu.

II p. 24 setzt es mit ἠϊών u. ἠϊόεις in Vrbdg, was die Schreibung mit dem spirit. lenis rechtfertigen würde. Vgl. ἰαμεναί.
