В истории расовых волнений в XIX в. отмечены два периода. Первый - антинегритянские и антиаболиционистские [ abolition] выступления в крупных городах Севера [ North] в 1820-65, вызванные борьбой за рабочие места и противодействием притоку беглых рабов.
