1898-1982De origen ruso, llega a America siendo aun un nino y es en el nuevo continente donde se inicia profesionalmente como actor de cine mudo. Mas tarde trabajara como guionista y, por fin, como realizador. En la Republic realizara sus mejores filmes de aventuras, como The Fighting Seabees (1944), o La venganza del bergantin (Wake of the Red Witch, 1948). Ya en la Paramount continua haciendo el tipo de peliculas que mas le agrada, y para las que esta mas dotado, como La mansion de Sangaree (Sangaree, 1953), o Jibaro (Jivaro (1953). Nada especialmente favorable puede decirse de el como realizador, ni de sus peliculas, pero tambien es cierto que, en su terreno, consigue productos muy eficaces.
