В его состав входят семь членов, работающих в Комитете на постоянной основе, высокооплачиваемых и избираемых на пятилетний срок. FASB является независимой профессиональной организацией (независимой как от государственных органов власти, гак и от других организаций, например от Американского института дипломированных общественных бухгалтеров (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants - AICPA). Члены FASB не имеют права работать в каких-либо других организациях или фирмах. Главная задача FASB - разработка стандартов финансового учета, составляющих основу системы GAAP.
