kein (keiner), keine, kein, nullus. nemo (beide adj. u. subst., aber mit dem Untersch., daß nullus auf Personen u. lebl. Subjekte, nemo nur auf Personen bezogen werden kann, z.B. nemo homo. In der klass. Prosa ist der Genet. u. Ablat. von nemo ungebräuchlich und es treten dafür dieselben Kasus von nullus ein). – non ullus, non quisquam (nicht irgend einer, wenn die Verneinung) mehr hervorgehoben werden soll, ersteres adj., letzteres subst., s. irgend). – neuter (keiner von beiden, muß in jedem Fall gesetzt werden, wo von zwei Einzelwesen oder zwei Parteien die Rede ist, auch wenn im Deutschen bloß das einfache »keiner« steht). – Wenn [1429] nullus u. nemo als Partitiva gebraucht werden, d. h. wenn »kein« den übrigen Teilen od. dem Ganzen entgegengesetzt wird, so haben sie, wie auch oft das deutsche »kein«, den Genetiv bei sich, z.B. kein Sterblicher oder keiner der Sterblichen, nemo mortalium: kein Tier (keins der Tiere) ist klüger, nulla beluarum prudentior est. Doch kann der Genetiv zuw. auch durch de, ex umschrieben werden, z.B. keiner der Unserigen oder von den Unserigen fiel, nemo de nostris cecĭdit. – Aber »keins meiner Worte«, nullum meum dictum: keins meiner Worte (kein Wort von mir), auch nicht das kleinste, nullum meum minimum dictum – Scheinbar geradezu für nullus u. nemo wird im Lateinischen oft nihil [mit Genet., wenn es für nullus steht] gebraucht; aber es findet der wesentliche Untersch. statt, daß durch nihil der negative Sinn mehr hervorgehoben wird, indem es unserm »gar durchaus kein« entspricht, z.B. (gar) keine Belohnung fordern, nihil praemii expetere: (gar) keine Bedenklichkeit haben, nihil dubitationis habere. Häufig gebrauchen die Deutschen ihr »kein«, wo nicht allgemein, sondern etwas Einzelnes verneint wird. In diesem Falle, der bes. dann eintreten wird, wenn das »kein« zu einem Eigenschaftswort oderzueiner Prädikatsbestimmung eines genannten Substantivs gehört, muß im Latein. statt nullus die bloße Negation non stehen, z.B. ich weiß, daß ich euch keine eben sehr erfreuliche Nachricht bringe, scio non iucundissimum nuntium me vobis allaturum: auf dem hohen Meere fällt kein Schnee, nives in alto non cadunt.
Ebenso tritt für »kein« im Latein. non ein, wenn das deutsche Objekt mit seinem Verbum im Latein. durch einen Verbalausdruck bezeichnet wird, z.B. keine Furcht haben, non timere: kein Bedenken tragen, non dubitare: keinen Haß (keine Abneigung etc.) hegen gegen jmd., non odisse alqm u. dgl.
und keiner, auch keiner, et nullus. nec ullus (adj.); nec quisquam (subst.): kein einzelner, nemo quisquam; nemo unus. – kein einziger, non od. haud quisquam (nicht irgend einer); nemo omnium (niemand von allen): kein einziger Mensch, nemo omnium hominum: es war kein einziger (Mensch), der nicht etc., nemo non (z.B. nemo non me virum fortem dixit). – an keinem Orte, nullo loco; nusquam (nirgends): zu keiner Zeit, nullo tempore; numquam (niemals): und zu keiner Zeit, nec umquam: in keiner Hinsicht, nihil: auf keine Weise, nullo modo; minime: auf keiner von beiden Seiten, neutro.
