Карикатура, абсурд, агрессивные и кричащие цвета и т. д. – все это Льюис-режиссер использует бесконечно глубже и выразительнее. Сегодня фильмы Тэшлина (без сомнения, перехваленные в свое время) вряд ли покажутся лучше фильмов Нормана Маклауда или Нормана Таурога – режиссеров, впрочем, отнюдь не последнего разряда. В этой картине персонаж Льюиса, вечный подросток, приобретает новые черты: в его образе Тэшлин рисует забавный портрет симпатичного, хотя и чуть двинутого киномана. Только не стоит ожидать описания «фабрики грез» изнутри или извне. 4/5 действия фильма проходят на американских дорогах; гэги налеплены как попало и по природе своей могли бы с равным успехом фигурировать в любом фильме с участием тандема Мартин – Льюис.
