τόξον (root τυκ, τυχεῖν), pl. τόξα: bow, freq. the pl. for the sing., as the weapon was made of two horns joined by a centre-piece, see Il. 4.105-111. The bow was strung by slipping the loop at one end of the string ( νευρή) over the curved tip ( κορώνη) at the end of the bow, see cut No. 34.
