1 κλαμβός
Grammatical information: adj.Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: Formation as κολοβός `id.', σκαμβός `crooked' etc. (Chantraine Formation 261, Schwyzer 496) from κλάω(?) (Pok. 547). (On Lith. klumbas `limping, stumbling', OE lempi-healt `limping', which Specht Ursprung 130f. connected wih κλαμβός, s. Fraenkel Wb. s. v. (to Lith. klùbti `stumble') or Pok. 657 (to NEng. limp etc. (IE. * lemb-).) - A typically Pre-Greek word; cf. σκαμβός.Page in Frisk: 1,865-866Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > κλαμβός

7 ῥαιβός
Grammatical information: adj.Compounds: As 1. member a.o. in ῥαιβο-ειδής `crooked of shape' (Hp.).Derivatives: ῥαιβ-ηδόν `in bendings' (Euph.), - όω `to bend' (Lyc., Gal.), - ότης f. `bendedness' (Eust.).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: The words in - βός express often a corporeal defect, e.g. κολοβός, κλαμβός, σκαμβός, ὑβός; the β may belong to the root ( στραβός). Also in ῥαιβός the β is old and inherited, if the comparison with Germ., e.g. Goth. wraiqs ' σκολιός' is reliable: IE *u̯roigʷo- or *u̯roig-u̯o- (Aufrecht KZ 12, 400, Persson Beitr. 1, 502 n.1). On the α-vowel cf. κλαμβός a.o. above, also λαιός, σκαιός (w. old u̯o-suffix). Other proposal, not to be preferred by Solmsen KZ 34, 552: to Lith. sráigė `snail' (s. Fraenkel s.v.). -- Further details (parly diff.) w. lit. in Bq, WP. 1, 279, Pok. 1158, Feist Vgl. Wb. s. wraiqs. Cf. ῥοικός, also ῥυβός. -- The vocalism can only be explained if we assume *wreh₂ig-u̯-, which cannot be combined with *u̯roig-u̯-; so the word is prob. not IE, and may be Pre-Greek.Page in Frisk: 2,639Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > ῥαιβός

9 κολοβός
κολοβός zie kolosGrammatical information: adj.Meaning: `curtailed, maimed, short' (Pl., X., Arist., hell.);Compounds: as 1. member e. g. in κολοβό-κερκος `with docked tail' (LXX).Derivatives: κολόβιον n. `jack without sleeves' (pap.), also κολόβαξ (Gloss.); κολοβώδης `stunted, stumpy' (Polem. Phgn. [v. l.]), κολοβότης `stuntedness' (Plu.). Denomin. verbs: 1. κολοβόω `stunt, shorten' with κολόβωσις `mutilation', κολόβωμα `maimed, amputated member' (Arist.); 2. κολοβίζω `id.' (Thera Ia-Ip).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: Expressive enlargement in - βος of κόλος; s. also on κλαμβός. No words agreeing with κολοβός have been found (s. Bq; also Machek Listy filol. 72, 71 and Ling. Posn. 5, 61 on Slav. komolъ `without horns'). Connection with Lat. incolumis, calamitas with variation b: m (Niedermann, s. W.-Hofmann s. calamitās; also Specht Ursprung 262) is hypothetic. Prob. Pre-Greek.Page in Frisk: 1,900-901Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > κολοβός

10 κράμβος
Grammatical information: adj.Derivatives: κραμβαλέος `dry, roasted' (Ath.; after αὑαλέος a.o.), κραμβαλίζουσιν καπυρίζουσι H.; with vowelassimilation κρομ-βόω `roast, bake' (Diph.). - κραμβότατον στόμα; H., Suid.); as subst. m. `blight in grapes, when they shrivel before they are ripe' (Thphr.; Strömberg Theophrastea 167). - Here also κράμβαλα μνημεῖα H. (of the urn with ashes), which is quite unclear to me. Further κράμβωτον ἰκτῖνος τὸ ζῳ̃ον H. (after the claws?; diff. Thompson s. v.).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: The word has been compared with OHG (h)rimfan `wrinkel, curb, rūmpfen' as IE * kremb-, * kromb-. On the ending - βος and the α-vowel cf. a. o. σκαμβός, κλαμβός (s. v.). The accent is remarkable and may point to original substantiv. function. - Fur. 238 compares κραῦρος `dry, frail, fragile' (s.v.), without prenasalization and with u̯ for β (on which see Fur. 228 -242), which is convincing; note Frisk s.v. κραῦρος "ebenfalls mit bemerkenswerter Barytonese." Fur. 343 further adduces κόμβος [note the accent!] ὁ κόνδυλος. καὶ ὁ καπυρός; κρομβότατον καπυρώτατον. κατακεκονδυλωμένον H. Further perh. κράβυζος (s.v.). So without a doubt a Pre-Greek word. - Fur. 283 analyses κράμβωτον and connects κράμβος λάρος H.[`mew'] what I do not understand.Page in Frisk: 2,5-6Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > κράμβος

11 σκαμβός
Grammatical information: adj.Meaning: `crooked, bandy-legged' (LXX, hell. pap., Gal.),Derivatives: σκαμβό-πους `with crooked feet' (Ps.-Archyt.), σκαμβόομαι `to curve' (Aq.). Further in H.: σκάμβυκες σκόλοπες, χάρακες (as θρῆνυξ a. o.); σκαμβάλυξ σκαμβός, στρεβλός (as if from *σκαμβαλος; cf. βαύκαλος a. o.; ταρβάλυξ, φεψάλυξ a. o.); σκαμβηρίζοντες ὀλισθαίνοντες (: *σκαμβηρός like ὀλισθηρός a. o.).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin] (S)Etymology: Popular formation with α-vowel and β-suffix like κλαμβός, θραμβός; cf. further σκιμβός, λιμβός, λομβός and several other words not frequently found in literature (Chantraine Form. 260 ff., Schwyzer 496). For such a word one should not look for a straight genealogy. Inside Greek one thinks with Ehrlich Sprachgesch. 15 best of σκάζω (semantic doubts in WP. 2, 539); under non-Greek words Fick 2, 78 f. adduced OIr. camm `crooked', Gaul. PN Cambo-dūnum, so that one compares also the family of κάμπτω. Further combinations of varying value in WP. l.c., Pok. 918, W.-Hofmann s. cambiō and campus w. rich lit.; further to it Machek Ling. Posn. 5, 61. -- Cross of σκάζω with the very rare σκιμβός (Sommer Sprachgesch. u. Wortbed. 426) is not probable. -- The word is clearly Pre-Greek (suff. - υκ-, - αλ-); or does Celt. camb- points to a Eur. substratum?Page in Frisk: 2,716-717Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > σκαμβός
