συνίημι (Hom. et al.; pap, LXX; pseudepigr.; Philo, Aet. M. 27; Jos., Ant. 7, 186 al.; apolog.); the NT has only one quite certain ex. of the conjugation in-μι: the inf. συνιέναι Ac 7:25a. In all the other cases the ms. tradition is divided: 3 pl. συνιᾶσιν 2 Cor 10:12 (s. Windisch ad loc.); impf. συνίειν LXX; inf. συνιέναι Lk 24:45; ptc. συνιείς,-έντος Mt 13:19, 23; Eph 5:17 v.l. Beside συνίημι may also be found συνίω Hm 4, 2, 1; 10, 1, 3; 3 pl. συνίουσιν Mt 13:13; 2 Cor 10:12 v.l.; Hm 10, 1, 6a (the accentuation συνιοῦσιν is incorrect; s. W-S. §14, 16; Mlt-H. 60). Either the-μι form or the-ω form could supply the 2 pl. indic. or impv. συνίετε Mt 15:10; Mk 8:17, 21; Eph 5:17, the 3 sg. impv. συνιέτω Mk 4:9 D and, depending on the way the form is accented, the foll. subjunctive forms: 3 pl. συνιωσιν (συνιῶσιν or συνίωσιν) Mk 4:12; Lk 8:10; cp. συνιωμεν B 10:12b, συνιητε 6:5.—Fut. συνήσω, 2d sg. συνιεῖς (?) 13 βρακεῖν
Grammatical information: v.Origin: XX [etym. unknown]Etymology: Here perhaps also δυσβράκανον δυσχερές,... δυσκατανόητον H. - Since Roth KZ 19, 223 to Skt. mr̥śáti `touch, take, seize' (*mr̥ḱ-). One compares further βράψαι συλλαβεῖν, ἀναλῶσαι, κρύψαι, θηρεῦσαι and βράπτειν ἐσθίειν, κρύπτειν, ἀφανίζειν, τῳ̃ στόματι ἕλκειν, η στενάζειν as either influenced by μάρψαι or related to it (with assimilation of κ to initial μ-, giving π (Schwyzer 302). All uncertain. S. μάρπτω. - Cf. further βράκετον.. πλῆθος and βράττειν πληθύνειν, βαρύνειν H. - S. Belardi, Doxa 3, 200. 14 κοννέω
Grammatical information: v.Meaning: `know, understand', only κοννεῖς, κοννῶ (A. Supp. 130 a. 164) and κοννεῖν συνιέναι, ἐπίστασθαι; κοννοῦσι γινώσκουσιν H.Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]X [probably]Etymology: The similarity with κόν εἰδός (?) and ἔκομεν εἴδομεν, ἑωρῶμεν, ᾐσθόμεθα H., and in the end also with κοεῖν `remark, learn' (s. v.) has long been oberved (s. Bq); but the details and the formation remain quite unclear. - The verb seems very un-IE; it might be Pre-Greek.Page in Frisk: 1,913Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > κοννέω

15 μάρπτω
Grammatical information: v.Meaning: `catch, seize, lay hold off, overtake' (Il.; cf. Ruijgh L'élém. ach. 166);Derivatives: μάρπτις m. `robber' (A. Supp. 826 [lyr.]; Schwyzer 271, 504 w. n. 3); κάμμαρψις μέτρον σιτικόν, τὸ ἡμιμέδιμνον. Αἰολεῖς H.Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: Analogically formed system without cognate outside Greek. Note the H.-glosses βράψαι συλλαβεῖν, ἀναλῶσαι, κρύψαι, θηρεῦσαι and βράπτειν ἐσθίειν, κρύπτειν, ἀφανίζειν, τῳ̃ στόματι ἕλκειν, η στενάζειν (with βρ- \< mr-); besides with deviating auslaut βρακεῖν συνιέναι, βράξαι συλλαβεῖν, δακεῖν, καταπιεῖν, which are compared with Skt. mr̥śáti `touch, take' (cf. s. v.). The variation κ: π is unexplained; on an improbable theory of assimilation (μ -- κ \> μ -- π) s. Schwyzer 302 and on βρακεῖν. Positing varying root-enlargements mer-ḱ-: mer-kʷ- (s. WP. 2, 283) does not help much. -- Older lit. in Bq. Cf. μαπέειν. - For the variation one thinks of Pre-Greek * mr(a)kʷ-, which became βραπ- or βρακ-, with developments differring from the IE labio-velars.Page in Frisk: 2,178Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > μάρπτω
