61 Wolstenholme Towne
English-Russian dictionary of regional studies > Wolstenholme Towne

Shit. Piss. Fart. 8. S.O.B. = son of a bitch = сукин сын. Популярное "son of a gun" - это эвфемизм S.O.B. You are the son of the great American mother! Not so?" When for a passport, or some other barTo freedom, he applied (a grief and a bore),If he found not in this spawn of taxborn riches,Like lap-dogs, the least civil sons of bitches". Это используется иногда.◦ святые места: Jerusalem, Jericho, the Holy Grave (Иерусалим, Иерихон, святые гробницы) - а вот это уже редкость.◦ относящееся к загробной жизни: heavens (небеса), hell (ад), bless (благословение), damn (проклятие) и многочисленные искаженные формы: darn, dang, blast.• связанное с предками, великими людьми, природой:by my dead father (моим умершим отцом), by the ashes of George Washington (прахом Джорджа Вашингтона), thunder and lightning (гром и молния) ит.п. п.), Hang it (черт, блин! American slang. 68 packet-boat
69 pram
70 yacht

72 come to the ground
He argued that in the first place no girl in her senses would accept him. To this Alaric replied that as Clementina had not much sense to speak of that objection might fall to the ground. (A. Trollope, ‘The Three Clerks’, ch.
It is amazing how in the face of passion and the affections and the changing face of life all plans and theories by which we guide ourselves fall to the ground. (Th. Dreiser, ‘The Titan’, ch.
Dave's schemes were always elaborate, and that was why they so often came to the ground.
