1874-1948Nacido en Cork, Nebraska, Fred Niblo es, en realidad, un director de cine mudo: casi cuarenta realizaciones en este periodo frente a seis peliculas sonoras. En el obtuvo sus grandes exitos, sobre todo Ben- Hur (1925) y los dos filmes que hizo con Greta Garbo (La tierra de todos, The Temptress, 1926, y La dama misteriosa, The Mysterious Lady, 1928), o los que rodo con Rudolph Valentino (Sangre y arena, Blood and Sand, 1922) y con Douglas Fairbanks (La marca del Zorro, The Mark Of Zorro, 1920, y D’Artagnan, The Three Musketeers, 1921). Actor de teatro en sus origenes, sus dos primeras peliculas como realizador, en 1916, las rueda en Australia. En los Estados Unidos debuta en 1918. Su western sonoro es poco destacable.
