ὅπως, ep ὅππως, ion. ὅκως, correlat. zu πῶς; – 1) relativ u. indirect fragend, wie, aufwelche Weise, so wie; ἔσπετε νῦν μοι, ὅππως δὴ πρῶτον πῦρ ἔμπεσε, Il. 16, 113; φράζεο, ὅπως κε πόλιν σαώσεις, 17, 144; φράζευ, ὅπως μνηστῆρσιν ἀναιδέσι χεῖρας ἐφήσεις, Od. 13, 376; auch. entspricht οὕτως und ὥς, ὅπως φρεσὶ σῇσι μενοινᾷς, ὥς τοι Ζεὺς τελέσειεν, 15, 111; auch ein vorangehendes τοῖος, τοῖόν με ἔϑηκεν, ὅπως ἐϑέλει, also für οἷον, 16, 208; σεαυτὸν σῶζ' ὅπως ἐπίστασαι, Aesch. III, 389 c IV, 421 c; ὅπως βούλεται, Prot. 336 b u. sonst. Außer dieser gewöhnlichsten Verbindung mit dem indic. wird es mit ἄν u. dem conj. verbunden, eine Bedingung für Gegenwart od. Zukunft auszudrücken, wie immer auch, quomodocunque; κατὰ τωὐτὸ ἰέναι πάντας, τῇ ἂν αὐτὸς ἐξηγέηται, ὅκως ἂν αὐτὸν ὁρέωσι σπουδῆς ἔχοντα, wie sie ihn immer würden eilen sehen, Her. 9, 66; ὅπως ἂν βούλησϑε, Plat. Phaed. 115 c; ὅπως ἂν φῇ ἔχειν, Gorg. 481 d; λεκτέον, ὅπως ἂν ἡμῖν παρείκωσι ϑεοὶ νομοϑετεῖν, so wie immer, so weit, Legg. XI, 934 c; Xen. Cyr. 5, 3, 9; – Hom. hat so auch den bloßen conj. ohne ἄν, Ζεὺς αἴτιος, ὅςτε δίδωσιν ἀνδράσιν ὅπως ἐϑέλῃσιν, ἑκάστῳ, Od. 1, 349, wie 6, 189 Il. 10, 225. – In der indirecten Frage steht, nach vorangehendem Präsens oder Futurum, der conj. bes. nach ἔχω, οὐκ ἔχω, ὅπως σοι εἴπω, ὃ νοῶ, Plat. Euthyphr. 11 b; οὔτε γὰρ ὅπως βοηϑῶ ἔχω, οὔτ' αὖ ὅπως μὴ βοηϑήσω ἔχω, Rep. II, 368 b; – Hom. setzt nach κε hinzu, φράζεσϑαί σε ἄνωγεν, ὅππως κεν νῆας σόῃς, er heißt dich überlegen, wie du etwa die Schiffe retten könnest, Il. 9, 681, vgl. 20, 243; so auch σὲ δὲ φράζεσϑαι ἄνωγα, ὅππως κε μνηστῆρας ἀπώσεαι (conj. aor.), Od. 1, 270, vgl. ib. 295. – Nach einem Präteritum in der indirecten Rede der opt., ἀλλ' ἄρα μερμήριζεν, ὅπως ἀπολοίατο πᾶσαι νῆες, Od. 9, 554; αὐτὰρ ἐγὼ βούλευον, ὅπως ἐρέοιμι ἑκάστην, 11, 229, vgl. 15, 170. 203 Il. 18, 473. 21, 137. 24, 680; Soph. Ant. 271; ὥςτε οὔϑ' ὅπως οὖν ὀργιζοίμην εἶχον, Plat. Conv. 219 d; ὅπη καὶ ὅπως εἰς τὸ σῶμα ἀφίκοιτο, οὐκ εἰδέναι, Rep. X, 621 b. – Sehr gewöhnlich ist aber auch in dieser indirecten Frage der ind., bes. fut., οὐδέ τί πω σάφα ἴδμεν, ὅπως ἔσται τάδε ἔργα, wir wissen nicht recht, wie die Dinge kommen werden, was daraus werden wird, Il. 2, 252 Od. 17, 78 u. öfter; φράζευ, ὅπως μνηστῆρσιν ἀναιδέσι χεῖρας ἐφήσεις, Od. 13, 376, vgl. 14, 329. 20, 29. 39 Il. 1, 136. 9, 251. 17, 144; δεῖ ὅπως τὰ τοῦ ϑεοῦ μαντεῖ' ἄριστα λύσομεν σκοπεῖν, Soph. O. R. 407, vgl. O. C. 1739; u. so in Prosa, βουλεύεται, ὅπως μήποτε ἔτι ἔσται ἐπὶ τῷ ἀδελφῷ, Xen. An. 1, 1, 4, u. sonst. – Auch der opt. potent. wird gesetzt, ὅτι οὐκ αὖ μανϑάνεις, ὅπως ἂν ταῦτα γένοιτο, Plat. Rep. III, 393 d; τοῦτον τὸν μῦϑον ὅπως ἂν πεισϑεῖεν ἔχεις τινὰ μηχανήν, ibid. 415 c; ἐπυνϑάνετο, ὅπως ἂν κάλλιστα πορευϑείη, Xen. An. 3, 1, 7, vgl. 4, 3, 14. 5, 7, 7; ὅπως βουλευσόμεϑα, ὅπως ἂν ἄριστα ἀγωνιζοίμεϑα, Cyr. 2, 1, 4. – Direct fragend scheint es zu stehen, wenn man in Beziehung auf ein voranstehendes πῶς; die Antwort mit ὅπως; einleitet, πῶς με χρὴ καλεῖν; – ὅπως; τὴν καρδόπην, wie? (fargst du?) Ar. Nubb. 667, vgl. Equ. 1068 Plut. 139; so auch Plat. Hipp. mai. 292 c Legg. II, 662 a. – Besonders bemerke man noch folgende Verbindungen: οὐκ ἔσϑ' ὅπως, es geht auf keine Weise, es ist durchaus unmöglich; οὐκ ἔσϑ' ὅπως λέξαιμι, Aesch. Ag. 606; οὐκ ἔσϑ' ὅπως ποτ' ἕξεις, Soph. Phil. 518, vgl. O. C. 1374 Ant. 329; ἐγὼ μὲν οὖν οὐκ ἔσϑ' ὅπως σιγήσομαι, Ar. Plut. 18, u. sonst, wie Dem. 18, 208, οὐκ ἔστιν, οὐκ ἔστιν ὅπως ἡμάρτετε; – οὐκ ἔσϑ' ὅπως οὐ, es ist unmöglich, daß nicht, d. i. es muß durchaus, fieri non potest quin, οὐ γὰρ ἔσϑ' ὅπως ὅδ' οὐκ Ὀρέστης ἐστίν, der muß Orestes sein, Soph. El. 1471; οὐ γὰρ γένοιτ' ἂν ταῦϑ' ὅπως οὐχ ὧδ' ἔχειν, Ai. 371, es dürfte wohl nicht möglich sein, daß sich dies nicht so verhielte, d. i. Geschehenes kann nicht ungeschehen gemacht werden; vgl. O. R. 1058 O. C. 97; οὐκ ἔσϑ' ὅπως οὐκ ἐξελῶ 'κ τῆς οἰκίας, Ar. Nubb. 802, vgl. Plut. 851 Equ. 424; – οὐχ ὅπως, ich will nicht sagen, nicht als ob, πε παύμεϑ' ἡμεῖς, οὐχ ὅπως σε, Soph. El. 786; οὔκουν ὅπως μνησϑῆναι ἄν τις ἐτόλμησε πρός τινα περὶ Κύρου φλαῠρόν τι, ἀλλ' ὡς, Xen. Cyr. 8, 2, 12; Hell. 5, 4, 34; Dem. 10, 41 προςήκει τούτους οὐχ ὅπως ὧν ἡ πόλις δίδωσιν ἀφελέσϑαι τι, ἀλλ' εἰ καὶ μηδὲν ἦν τούτων, ἄλλοϑεν σκοπεῖν, d. i. nicht nur nicht Etwas fortzunehmen, sondern vielmehr; so 21, 11 u. öfter. – Selten steht es geradezu für ὡς; a) bei Vergleichungen, ὀχλεῖς μάτην με, κῦμ' ὅπως, παρηγορῶν, Aesch. Prom. 1003; Ἔρωτι ὅςτις ἀντανίσταται, πύκτης ὅπως εἰς χεῖρας, οὐ καλῶς φρονεῖ, Soph. Trach. 442; μήτηρ χὠ κοινολεχὴς Αἴγισϑος, ὅπως δρῦν ὑλοτόμοι, σχίζουσι κάρα, El. 98, öfter; einzeln bei sp. D., wie δμωῒς ὅπως Ap. Rh. 1, 285. – b) c. superl., wie quam, den höchst möglichen Grad ausdrückend, ὅπως ὤκιστα, Theogn. 427; ἄριστα, Aesch. Ag. 586, öfter; σφῷν δ' ὅπως ἄριστα συμφέροι ϑεός, Soph. Phil. 623; O. R. 1410; vollständig οὕτως ὅπως ἥδιστα, Trach. 329, auf eine so angenehme Weise, wie die allerangenehmste ist; auch ὅπως τάχιστα, sobald als, Aesch. Prom. 228, Ar. Vesp. 168. 365; Krüger vergleicht mit diesem Gebrauch Xen. An. 2, 5, 7, οὐκ οἶδα, οὔτ' εἰς ποῖον ἂν σκότος ἀποδραίη, οὔϑ' ὅπως ἂν εἰς ἐχυρὸν χωρίον ἀποσταίη, was offenbar für εἰς ὡς ἐχυρόν steht. – 2) wie unser wie dient es auch – a) zur Bestimmung der Zeitumstände; Τρῶες δ' ἐῤῥίγησαν, ὅπως ἴδον αἰόλον ὀπφιν, Il. 12, 208, wie, als sie sahen, vgl. Od. 3, 373. 22, 22; Soph. Trach. 762 C. C. 1638; τὸν δ' ὅπως ὁρᾷ Ξέρξης, wie, als diesen Xerxes sieht, Aesch. Pers. 194; μετὰ ταῦϑ', ὅπως νῷν ἐγένεϑ' υἱὸς οὑτοσί, Ar. Nubb. 81; öfter Her., ὅκως ἡ συμβολὴ ἐγίνετο, 9, 66, u. mit dem optat. iterativ. in Beziehung auf die Vergangenheit, ὅκως εἴη ἐν τῇ γῇ καρπὸς ἁδρός, τηνικαῦτα –, 1, 17, vgl. 68. 100. 162; vgl. auch Plat. ὅπως ἄν τις πλέον ὑπερβὰς ἑβδομήκοντα ζῇ, sobald wie, Legg. VI, 755 a; ὅπως πρῶτα, sobald als, Hes. Th. 156. – b) zur Angabe des Grundes, ἄχος, ὅπως δὴ δηρὸν ἀποίχεται, Trauer, wie er, darüber, daß er so lange fort ist, Od. 4, 109. – c) auch zur Bildung eines Objectsatzes, bei Verbis des Sagens, Glaubens u. ähnlichen, wie auch wir zuweilen wie für daß gebrauchen, ὑπωπτεύετο, ὅπως μήποτ' ἂν ἄψυχα ὄντα οὕτως εἰς ἀκρίβειαν ϑαυμαστοῖς ἂν ἐχρῆτο νοῦν μὴ κεκτημένα, er vermuthete, daß sie niemals gebrauchen würden, Plat. Legg. XII, 967 b; ο ὐκ ἔχω πῶς ἀμφιςβητοίην, ὅπως οὐ πάντα ἐγὼ ἐπίσταμαι, ἐπειδήπερ ὑμεῖς φατε, Euthyd. 296 e, wie ich zweifeln oder meinen sollte, daß ich nicht Alles verstehe, wo Heindorf zu vergleichen; ὅπως ἄχϑομαι, μήδ' ὑπονοεῖτε, Xen. Cyr. 3, 3, 20; u. so bes. nach den Verbis, die ein Sorgetragen, Anordnen bedeuten, wie im Lat. ut; auch verbieten, ἀπηγόρευες, ὅπως μὴ τοῦτο ἀποκρινοίμην, Plat. Rep. I, 339 a, welche Construction auch bei den einzelnen Verbis angeführt ist, auch sich aus den folgenden Beispielen ergiebt. Denn diese Verbindungen bilden den Uebergang zu der Bdtg – 3) damit, auf daß, bei der man auch von der ursprünglichen Bdtg wie ausgehen muß. Die Conjunction ὅπως wird dann construirt, A) wenn sie von einem tempus der Gegenwart oder der Zukunft abhängig ist, auf die Zukunft bezüglich, a) c. ind. fut., ϑέλγει, ὅπως Ἰϑάκης ἐπιλήσεται, sie liebkos't ihn, damit er Ithaka's vergessen soll, Od. 1, 57; häufig bei den Attikern, ὅπως δ' ὅμαιμον αἷμα μὴ γενήσεται, δεῖ κάρτα ϑύειν, Aesch. Suppl. 444; ὅπως χρονίζον εὖ μενεῖ βουλευτέον, Ag. 821; auch nach imperat. aor., ἀγγείλατ' ἐντολὴν ὅπως Τελαμῶνι δείξει, Soph. Ai. 564; auch δέδοιχ' ὅπως μὴ 'κ τῆς σιωπῆς τῆςδ' ἀναῤῥήξει κακά, O. R. 1074; τρέψομαι, ὅπως βασανιῶ, Ar. Ran. 1117; ποίεε, ὅκως ἐκείνην ϑεήσεαι, Her. 1, 8; σοὶ μελέτω, ὅκως μή σε ὄψεται, ibid. 9; φόβος ἐστίν, ὅπως μὴ αὖϑις διασχισϑησόμεϑα, Plat. Conv. 193 a; aber ib. 174 e, εἰς καλὸν ἥκεις, ὅπως συνδειπνήσεις, haben die mss. συνδειπνή. σῃς; vgl. mit ähnlichen Varianten Rep. III, 403 b VI, 488 d; wenn sich auch Dawes' Regel, daß der conj. des aor. I. act. u. med. nicht gebraucht werde in dieser Verbindung, nicht durchweg bestätigt, so sind doch die Beispiele mit dem ind. fut. bei weitem überwiegend; vgl. Krüger zu Xen. An. 1, 3, 14, u. sonst in Prosa überall, bes. nach ἐπιμελεῖσϑαι, παρασκευάζεσϑαι, πάντα ποιεῖν, σκοπεῖσϑαι, φυλάσσειν u. ähnl., wo meist die Grundbedeutung von ὅπως noch merklich hervortritt. – b) cum conj.; λεύσσει, ὅπως ὄχ' ἄριστα μετ' ἀμφοτέροισι γένηται, Il, 3, 110; περιφραζώμεϑα πάντες νόστον, ὅπως ἔλϑῃσι, Od. 1, 76; λίσσεσϑαι δέ μιν αὐτόν ( inf. für den imperat.), ὅπως νημερτέα εἴπῃ, 3, 19, vgl. 13, 365. 14, 181. 23, 117; βλέπει φάος, ὅπως κατελϑὼν ἀμφοῖν γένηται φονεύς, Aesch. Ch. 194; τί δῆτ' οὐκ ἐν τάχει ἔῤῥιψ' ἐμαυτήν, ὅπως τῶν πάντων πόνων ἀπηλλάγην, damit ich befrei't worden wäre, Prom. 751; ὡς ὤφελον πάροιϑεν ἐκλιπεῖν βίον, πρὶν ἐς ξένην σε γαῖαν ἐκπέμψαι, ὅπως ϑανὼν ἔκεισο, Soph. El. 1123; οὐκ οὖν ἐχρῆν σε Πηγάσου ζεῦξαι πτερόν, ὅπως ἐφαίνου τοῖς ϑεοῖς τραγικώτερος, Ar. Pax 136. – Aus dem Vorhergehenden erklärt sich der absolute Gebrauch von ὅπως. Wie man nämlich sagt ὅρα, ὅκως μή σευ ἀποστήσονται, Her. 3, 36, siehe zu, nimm dich in Acht, daß sie nicht von dir abfallen, so wird auch ὅπως μή c. conj. od. fut. indicat. absolut gebraucht, warnend od. verbietend, daßnurnichtetwa, 6, 85; ὅπως γε μὴ ὁ σοφιστὴς ἐξαπατήσει ἡμᾶς, Plat. Prot. 313 c, wo wieder die mss. alle ἐξαπατήσῃ haben (vgl. oben a); ὅπως μὴ λήσετε διαφϑαρέντες, Gorg. 487 d; ἀλλ' ὅπως μὴ οὐχ οἷός τ' ἔσομαι, Rep. VI, 406 d; vgl. τόδε σκεψώμεϑα, ὅπως μὴ ἡμᾶς τὰ πολλὰ ταῦτα ὀνόματα ἐξαπατᾷ, Crat. 439 b; εὐλαβούμενοι, ὅπως μὴ ἐγὼ ἐξαπατήσας οἰχήσομαι, Phaed. 91 e; ὅπως οὖν μὴ ἀπολῇ μαστιγούμενος, Xen.
