«прогрессивное образование», широкое движение за реформы в области образования (1920-е гг.). Обычно связывается с именем Джона Дьюи [*Dewey, John]. Предполагает свободу поведения в классе, свободу в отношениях между учениками и учителем, изучение «полезных» предметов, в том числе рабочих профессий, делает акцент на обучении «путём делания», так, чтобы все знания извлекались из практической самодеятельности и личного опыта учащегося.
