1899-1964Nacido Samuel Neufeld, hermano de Sigmund Neufeld, futuro jefe de produccion de PRC, dirige cortometrajes desde 1926, y largometrajes desde 1933. Probablemente el mas prolifico realizador norteamericano de la era sonora, dirigio, sobre todo, westerns. Por sus manos paso una parte importante de los viejos heroes del genero, en peliculas de una hora de duracion y argumentos eternamente repetidos. Solo leer su filmografia produce cierto vertigo. Establecerla rigurosamente es una tarea ardua, especialmente en lo relativo al orden cronologico estricto, por lo que en esta ocasion mas que en ninguna otra hay que entender que ese orden es susceptible de correccion. Utiliza los seudonimos de Peter Stewart y Sherman Scott. Se ha prescindido de tres aparentes largometrajes, situados al final de su carrera y obtenidos, cada uno de ellos, por super posicion de dos episodios del serial televisivo “Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans”. Actor y director de algun exito durante el cine mudo, cuando llega el sonoro inicia una huida hacia adelante, dirigiendo febrilmente peliculas de muy bajo presupuesto. Antes de la llegada de la decada de los 40, ha desaparecido de las pantallas. Una de sus ultimas actuaciones, tan mo desta que ni siquiera figura en los titulos de credito, ocurre en La diligencia (Stagecoach, John Ford, 1939), una pelicula de referencia en el mundo del western. 1913-1957Actor, productor y director teatral, fue el creador del Little Theatre of Memphis y profesor de arte dramati co en la Southwestern University. Lo contrata Co lumbia como dialoguista en 1947. En 1949 es promovido a director, siempre como realizador de las peliculas de bajo presupuesto interpretadas por Charles Starrett. Permanecio durante toda su carrera en Co lumbia, trabajando la mayor parte del tiempo para la unidad de produccion de Sam Katzman, que se caracterizaba por la extrema modestia de sus presupuestos. 1899-1951Nacido en Jersey City, New Jersey, inicialmente trabaja como ayudante de fotografia y de direccion, pero en 1932 lo encontramos ya dirigiendo su primera pelicula, The Death Kiss, un producto tipico de cine de misterio, realizado para Tiffany, precursor de al menos otra decena de filmes de caracteristicas similares, todos ellos igualmente honestos, dirigidos por Marin. Este genero (o subgenero, si se quiere) y el western seran los que mejor se adapten a la personalidad del realizador, habil en la creacion de ambientes, solido en el desarrollo dramatico de sus filmes y, en resumen, honrado profesional, particularmente interesante en el mundo del western, en el que consigue peliculas llenas de vigor narrativo, muy por encima de la media de la epoca. Especialmente atractivos son sus filmes con el actor Randolph Scott, rodados entre 1949 y 1951, primero para 20th Century-Fox y luego para Warner Bros.
