1905-1970Tipico creador asociado practicamente toda su vida a una productora, George Blair trabaja para Republic Pictures desde mediados de los anos 30 hasta la bancarrota del estudio, en 1959. Primero lo hace como ayudante de direccion y director de segunda unidad, despues, a partir de 1944, como realizador. Parece moverse mas comodamente dentro de presupuestos estrictos que cuando estos son algo mas generosos. 1889-1984Nacido en Filadelfia, distribuye su vida entre el teatro, el cine y la radio. Tras una breve etapa como ayudante de direccion y director de dialogos, rueda su primer filme como director en 1932. Las peliculas de gangsters de William Keighley son modelicas. A sueldo de Warner Bros durante la mayor parte de su carrera, empieza a dirigir Robin de los bosques (The Adventures of Robin Hood, 1938), con Errol Flynn, pero fue reemplazado por Michael Curtiz. 1911Procedente del teatro, donde trabaja como bailarin y cantante, se incorpora a Hollywood a finales de los 40, dando el salto a la direccion a comienzos de la decada siguiente. Ejemplo de profesional honrado y de cierta calidad, su filmografia, no demasiado extensa, es modelica. Capaz de revalorizar cualquier guion que se pusiera a su cuidado, solo estropea un poco su intachable carrera como director en los ultimos tiempos, en que tal vez la influencia de la television, tal vez cierta fatiga creativa, le reducen a la condicion de director rutinario. Hombre de Univer sal, siempre se recordaran la modelica Atraco sin huellas (Six Bridges to Cross, 1955) y El hombre de las mil caras (Man of a Thousand Faces, 1957), biopic de indudable calidad, con un histrionico pero estupendo James Cagney. 1904-1989Nacido en Tacoma, Washington, empieza como ayudante de direccion en los albores del cine sonoro, y a mediados de la decada de los 40 se convierte en un director que, con el tiempo, resultara ser muy prolifico y razonablemente vulgar. Cuando empieza a dirigir, el western de serie B y las estrellas asociadas a el se encuentran ya en franca decadencia, por lo que cabe decir que Springsteen es uno de los ultimos en trabajar con estrellas del tipo Bill Elliott o Allan Lane. Esta en activo hasta bien entrados los anos 60, dirigiendo sobre todo westerns, pero tambien thrillers, algunas comedias e incluso varios mu sicales, lo que no conlleva, en su caso, la realizacion de proyectos mas ambiciosos. En todo caso, no es facil encontrar una pelicula de Springsteen que desagrade intensamente.
