1908-1988Nacido en Texarcana, Texas, estudia en la Universidad de Princeton, donde funda una compania de teatro universitario, la University Players, de la que forman parte, entre otros, Henry Fonda y James Stewart. En 1931 viaja a Moscu para estudiar con Stanislavsky, creador de un famoso metodo para actores, antecedente del Actor’s Studio. De vuelta a Estados Unidos, trabaja en Broadway, labor que interrumpe en 1936 para ir a Hollywood donde, entre otras cosas, dirigira una primera pelicula en regimen de co-direccion. Vuelve a Broadway donde, entre otras producciones, dirige “Fanny”, que trasladara al cine en 1961, “South Pacific”, de cuya parte literaria es autor y que tambien dirigira en Hollywood en 1958, y “Mr. Roberts” (“Escala en Hawai”), de la que es tambien autor. Precisamente para dirigir unas escenas de esta ultima obra viaja de nuevo a Hollywood, ahora para quedarse. El motivo de tal rodaje fue la enfermedad de John Ford que, junto a Mervyn LeRoy, firma la pelicula, estrenada en 1955. Poco despues Logan dirige Picnic, una pelicula que le abre las puertas de la industria y que llegara a ser, con toda probabilidad, la mejor de su poco abundante filmografia. Como se ha indicado, casi 20 anos antes ya habia dirigido, en colaboracion con Arthur Ripley, I Met My Love Again (Volvio el amor, 1938). La leyenda de la ciudad sin nombre sera su ultimo filme, en clave de western musical.Paint Your Wagon (La leyenda de la ciudad sin nombre). 1969. 164 minutos. Technicolor. Panavision 70 mm.
